My interpretation of a famous Colliers illustration. :)

(I couldn't figure out how to get the station flipped around the other way.)

I was testing the Big Wheel addon, and I looked away in the distance and saw what appeared to be a second Big Wheel orbiting below me! Then I realized I was looking at the Big Wheel's shadow!

I decided to take off from Olympus base and do the Martian moon tour.

Here's touchdown on Phobos. (I wish I had some sort of anchor on this craft... it keeps bouncing away!)

Doing a little exploring of Phobos before moving on to Deimos.

And now on to Deimos.

Touchdown on Deimos.

Noticed: Deimos seems to have a bit more gravity than Phobos. I can largely stay landed without bouncing off, with very little adjustment of the thrusters. (hold alt and kill rot seem to keep me landed well enough.) Edit: wait a sec, Phobos is the more massive of the two moons. Maybe I'm just getting better at landing on tiny moons?

And... home. Milk run.

Holy crap! As an Antelope Valley native, I gotta say that's outstanding!

Martin, would it be possible to add Mojave spaceport to your update? It's just a few miles to the northwest.

manual elevation flattening

Don't flatten it too much - some of those hills are meant to be there! :p

The scene in The Right Stuff where they're in the Australian outback, in that hilly desert area with the radar perched on one of the hills? That's actually to the south of the base, they just imported some Aborigines. ;)

I'll see what I can do. Currently my high-res coverage of Edwards corresponds to the surface area of tile 13/156/176, which I noticed just falls short of Mojave spaceport. I'll see if I can expand the coverage a bit further west. It depends on the support area of my source data, which is quite limited in range around Edwards. (on the other hand, it is very highly resolved. So far I had to download ~60GB of data just to extract my current coverage. If Orbiter ever supports resolutions > L19, Edwards will be even crisper).

Looks like a DG XR-5 with open cargo bay doors.

Either that or a defective copy of a portion of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon album art.

(Yes, it's an XR5. :) )

Proposed Russian Opsek space station after ISS decommission. Unfortunately I coudn't find something that resembles the future node module and Science and Power Module so I used Thorton's MIR core to simulate both. The excellent Nauka is from hutchison66.

I'm sure that it will be easy to do this once IMS 2.0 is finished. It has some really nice features that make creating customized modules very strait forward.

I had no idea that IMS 2.0 was being worked on. Is there a thread for it?

It has been in-work for nearly 2 years now I think. There's still a lot more work to be done on it before it's ready for folks outside the development/test team to play with it though.

Definite progress is being made. I can't wait to stress test it with my Lunar Station.
