Hi scarecrovv. Try this camera setting in your .ini's:
VISIBLE=1
Camera=(0,0.5,4.7)
That should put you "in the cockpit"; wonderful mesh :) Thanks

More on topic, a few comments:
- Camera is in the wrong place by default, as pointed out already
- Turning rate seems a lot lower than expected for a highly maneuverable space fighter
- Model and textures are very good, very clean and sharp.
Edit:
- Probably shouldn't have hover engines...

Not bad at all for a first upload!

Cheers, Heilor

Yeah, I'm a model/texture artist and programming is just alien gobbledigook to me. The ini file and SCN files that come with the Starfury are cludged together from bits (mainly the DG, I think) and I don't understand half of it.
The camera was set up to show off the model, really rather than for flying purposes :)
I mentioned in the readme that the maneuvering thrusters need to be more powerful, I've no idea how that's done, though (I tried upping some numbers but they didn't seem to have any effect). And, yes, it definately doesn't need hover engines :)
Also, the engine glows need to be bluer and more spectacular :D

I guess what this is, really is a mesh and some textures. If a coder wanted to do something spectacular with it, then I'd be only too delighted.
In further releases, I want to include a detailed Virtual Cockpit and I'd ideally love a custom DLL that allows the assigning/swapping of textures in the ini/cfg or scn file so that only one MSH file is necessary for all variants.

If anyone wanted to do a custom scn/cfg/ini and/or dll I'd be only too happy to include them in future updates in place of the existing ones.

StarshipExplorer, that's interesting, I'll try that but, the cockpit as it stands is very low detail, designed to be shown from a distance. Ultimately I want to include a detailed swap-out VC model.

PS - development of this model can be seen here:

(I can't believe it's been virtually finished for three years!)

Sounds to me like Urwumpe already has dibs on making a .dll for it, otherwise I'd give it a go :). There's a lot of opportunity there for fun things from the show, such as coordinating the main/reverse engines during turns...

Try this setting in the .ini

ATTITUDE THRUST=12e4

Not sure if it gives an 'accurate' turn rate, but she's damn fun to fly!

I work on a more or less generic DLL for any Babylon 5 craft (currently only Earth Alliance fighters), maybe it flies a bit better with it then.

I tried that, but it doesn't seem to make any difference :(

If that's not enough, try setting it higher. Maybe 14e4 or 20e4.

Heck, try 9e999. If that doesn't change anything, then something is really wrong. :lol:

Really? Made a HUGE difference for me, considering it was set to 5000 by default.

Needs to be set in each .ini for each ship variant in Config\Spacecraft. Are you sure you changed the right one for the Starfury you were flying at the time? I only changed Starfury.ini so far, so only the blank Starfury has these flight characteristics for me.

I did try 999e9. Uh, yeah, don't try that LOL. One SMALL burst of translation and I was out of the belly of the Cortez in a millisecond...

This is a really sweet looking craft. :thumbup:

On a side note, between flying this and the Cortez around, does anyone else get the season 2 music playing in their mind?

Can someone explain the 'e' thing to me in the variable. What does it mean?
What do 14e4 translate as in normal terms?

It means "exponent".

You translate things like that:

[math]14e4 = 14 \cdot {10}^{4} = 14 \cdot 10000 = 140000[/math]

Ah, I see. Thank you.

Got it. There was no underscore between Attitude and Thrust. It handles quite well now.

I've got main thrust as 1e6 and attitude thrust as 500000

It could probably do with tweaking (I need to figure out a decent Retro) It handles a lot more like a fighter now - certainly more like the ones in the show :)
