Version BETA: 0.2A - 22nd of February 2015

PREVIOUS VERSION BETA 0.1A of 16th of February 2015

On behalf of Gattispilot I have the honor of starting this thread with the purpose of hosting the beta test of the SLS/SKYLAB 2 package.
First of all...It is important to emphasize that all credit for this project must go to Gattispilot as I’m just acting here as the little helper. This is his project and everything you see in this package is his effort and I have merely helped doing some final testing, writing the manual and assembling the package.

For the SLS/SKYLAB2 things have come so much together that it is time to do a Beta test of the almost finished package. Also note that the two projects (SLS and Skylab2) now has merged into one package. There still some features in the pipeline for Skylab2 that Gattis is working on but it may take some time to develop so in the meantime we have decided that it was time to do this beta test so users can get a feel for the final product and report back any findings. This includes everything from missing or non-functioning items to suggetstions etc.

If at all possible please install this beta on a “clean” Orbiter installation. The reason for this is that if you have previously downloaded parts etc. for Skylab2 and/or SLS we might not identify any missing files in the zip container. Also take note of the required and recommended add-ons listed in the manual. All credit for these go to their authors.

Please post all future reports concerning the beta test in this thread. I will try to keep an eye open and help out as much as I can as I’m sure Gattispilot will. The latest version of the package can always be found here at the top of the thread.

Finally great appreciation and thanks to everyone who participated in the original development thread.

Thanks for all the development work and setting up a beta package!

But the webstorage-site did not load. Would it be possible to upload the zip-file directly here in the forum as an attachment, or ist too big for that?

Sometimes that service is a bit slow to respond...I have known it to take 20-25 secs to react.

But since its you...If you PM me your email adress I will mail it to you :)

When testing the second Skylab scenario I got errors:

2_Skylab2 with Orion MPCV and UCGO.scn:
---------------------------------------------------------------
>>> ERROR: Missing texture: SKYLAB2/Main.dds
>>> [TextureManager::AcquireTexture | .\Texture.cpp | 750]
---------------------------------------------------------------
Module CMG2.dll .............. [Build 110727, API 100830]
Module UCGODynamicCargo.dll .. [Build 131128, API 100830]
>>> ERROR: No vessel class configuration file found for:
---------------------------------------------------------------
>>> ERROR: UCargoDeck
>>> [Vessel::OpenConfigFile | .\Vessel.cpp | 252]
---------------------------------------------------------------

I do have the UCGO30_2010_20140109 installed, but the missing dll's are not included. Is there an update for UCGO somewhere?

You need additional addons to run that scenario apparently not listed in the scenario description and/or manual - which is a mistake on my part. As you posted this I was also investigating another issue with this scenarios because I cant get it to run either. Will correct and get back.
-------EDIT-------
Scenarios has been corrected. It was some old definitions in the Skylab2 section of some of the scenario files that had lingered on after the latest Skylab2.dll update. I dont think UCGO is the problem here.I'm sure it will work with the updated files. Also missing textures and meshes has been identified. Work in progress :) An updated package will follow. Thanx for your Input FrancisD.

Where are the textures for the launchpad? It looks like a good mesh but it's icecube white.

The LUT is completely awesome.

I'm getting a CTD with any scenario that had the MPCV in it. I've got the latest, perhaps it is referencing an earlier rev?

Here's the log, but it's doesn't seem very helpful.

There are some issues with the scenarios that are related to SKYLAB2. There was an inbetween update to the skylab2.dll that also required update of the scenarios. There is an update in the pipeline for that. I will check if the MPCV has been updated and if so I will check for scenario validity with regards to that. Concerning the launchpadtextures. Glad you pointed that out...I had missed a directory in the upload package. So...al in all..stay tuned....Update will follow

In SLS operations -> Block1 -> Orion MPCV Lunar is missing ICPS.
Other than that, everything seems working nominaly.

BETA Update

Updated version BETA 02 available in the top of the thread. Numerous things added and updated based on inputs. No incremental update provided so please run the zip and allow overwrite. See the file SLS-SKYLAB2-Beta.txt in your orbiter root dir for details. Some files provided in the first download are no longer needed and can be deleted. See the above mentioned txt file for this. The scenario problems with the SKYLABII should be solved (I believe the reported UCGO issues were related to this). Also the reported ICPS problem is solved. With regards to OrionMPCV the version used in this beta is Orion-MPCV-07 which I believe is the latest. I re-downloaded and performed an overwrite with version 07 but was not able to reproduce the problem. If the problem with OrionMPCV vs. SLS persists I would like to hear from you.

Thanks, good update! I tried the scenarios involving the Orion-MPCV, all went well.

Found out what initially blocked my download of the beta file: The webstorage did not work with my Chrome browser. Download with Internet Eplorer went ok.

Suggestion for the scenario files: You could provide the parameters for the built-in Velcro autopilot as well. I know it is kind of crude, but would only require 2 lines (heading, tgt_heading) which could be commented out initially with ";".

It seems all is well. Still working on Skylab2. Mainly trying to get UCGO to work. Since the cargo don't seem to fit well around the front of the craft. We may go back to the scaffold vessel that had a RMS arm.
Also trying to get a pop out window to display the CMG information. That is the hardest right now

One thing I might add to the Launch pad is the venting? on the lines

For what it's worth, I talked to the Orion MPCV executive manager, and he said that it could just as easily be white and black. Also, on the MPCV, it could also be white, not black necessarily. It can go either way, depending on the weight and cost needs of each mission.

I don't know how much work is still being done on this addon, but there's been some additional details about SLS that have been released that I think might be of benefit.

I linked to this in the Orion MPCV thread a few month back because I strongly feel this could be used to assist in the development of this addon as a resource as this is an excellent 3D model. Be aware though, this is an absolutely massive model in terms of file size.

http://nasa3d.arc.nasa.gov/detail/sls-block1-obj

Some additional details about SLS Block 1 and Block 1B.

Looking at the thumbnail of the NASAspaceflight article, the SRBs on at least the Block 1B will have markings on them similar to Ares I-X/Redstone and the ET will sport an orange tank (I know Astro SG Wise spoke to the Orion MPCV Exec manager about this, but it appears that they've chosen the orange tank over the painted Saturn V look. MPCV color is still unknown).

http://www.nasaspaceflight.com/2015/08/usa-adapt-sls-additional-payloads/

I hope this helps if anyone is still working on this. It's really nice to fly SLS around. :)

Thanks. Well I haven't heard from the guy I was working with. We were working on the CMG.
We did have a orange tank

Well I looked at the nasa.obj file. There is a LOT of details. But basically I think we may be good. Just use the orange tank.

On the Towers I add Venting. To come from the 2 CS arms. Having issues with that.

I was/am working on a new interface for the CMG for skylab2. But we may release before that is done

Also we were working on attaching cargo to the rear of the Skylab2 But had issues. UCGO didn't work either as the attachment points needed to be adjusted.
