Well, it's been a sunny day in the UK today, and since I could see the sky, I went to take some pictures with my new DSLR camera. I went out onto a local footpath leading through a field, and here's what I got:

Very nice! What camera did you get? What lens are you using?

Thanks! It's a Canon Eos 1100D, and the lens is a default one that came with it. It's an 18-35mm zoom lens with autofocus. I got the camera for astrophotography, but I haven't been able to use it much for that yet! It's also fantastic at normal images like these. I took these photos in full auto mode, and processed them in GIMP by changing the contrast, curves and saturation to bring the colour out.

I can tell by the pixels that it looks like a Canon EOS 1100D, with the 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.5 lens.

EDIT: darn it! Didn't post in time. And it wasn't the pixels, it was the exif data...

Right behind you - don't look!
Cool pics. Can we make this a thread for all miscellaneous nice or curious pictures forum members may like to post? This way they won't be dispersed unevenly all over the place.

Cool.
In that case, let's teraport to the nice Mediterranean coast, where the sky was clear the whole week.

The season is in full swing, and there are a lot of people, unlike a quiet field in UK.
img_1057.jpg

But they are a minor nuisance easy to get away from.

Cause there are no borders when the sea is near.

It's only an hour east of UK, so the sun sets about the same time.

Not that it matters to anyone.

Not even birds.

Another used day passed on to the New World.

Thanks for the nice words Samuel, and yeah - some of Unstung's photos remind me of professional stock photos. I love the DC3 and the water ripples the most. How did you get the ripple picture? Some kind of special high-speed camera?

The built-in flash on a DSLR camera will suffice because it's powerful enough. All you need to do is to use the flash and set it to TTL (through-the-lens) metering, which should be on by default. You can manually set the output of the flash, but I've never experimented with that for the water drops because the automatic metering always properly exposed my photos. The bright flash, not the shutter speed, will freeze the motion of the water drops, and the rest is timing.
Necessary tips: Use a small aperture, compose your photograph ahead of time, and focus on the location where the drops will hit so you can get the droplets in focus.
Obviously an external flash unit will make the photos look better if you know how to use it properly, but I've never had enough justification to buy one.
