Share the best songs on your Orbiter Playlist
Knowing human beings like I often pretend to, I'm certain there's been a topic about Orbiter music preferences before, but this time it's a little more specific:
Open up orbertersound_playlist and tell us the songs you just love to have a good float to.
Morcheeba -
"Trigger Hippie"
"Shoulder Holster" ...Both good jazzy chillout songs to let you feel you're in charge when making course corrections or while docking.
Mum - "Green Grass of Tunnel" An absolutely magical song. I defy you to sing along to this in LEO and not choke up a little.
Soul Coughing -
"In Circles"
"Sugarfree Jazz"
"Soundtrack to Mary" One of my favorite bands, these three songs of theirs make perfect inner solar system cruise music.
Thievery Corporation -
"The Karminsky Experience - Exploration" C'mon, this song is about space exploration.
"The Cosmic Game" WhoooooooOOOOOOOOAAAAH. Mind = Blown.
Stereolab - "Lo Boob Oscillator" Perfect MMU music. The freedom!
Prem Joshua - "Mangalam" The ideal Big, Bustling Space Station song, especially the second half.
Portishead -
"Mysterions" This song is... well, pretty much any song by Portishead is great Outer Solar System cruise music. Even that "Fun for Me" track they did with Moloko - Dreeeeaaamy.
Oasis -
"Sunday Morning Call"
"One Way Road"
"Gas Panic! (live)" All three good acid rock songs that evoke a feeling of weightlessness. (In the same vein, the guitar freakout in "Muffin Man" by Frank Zappa.)
The Beta Band -
"Dry the Rain"
"Human Being"
"To You Alone"
"Squares" ...excellent "Nothing can touch you out here, it's too peaceful" music.
Cracker - "Low" For when you just want to jam out in orbit. Yeah, I own a personal spaceship. I am just that rad.
The Easy Star All Stars - Their cover albums "Dub Side of the Moon" and "RadioDread", especially their versions of "Time," "Any Colour You Like," "Karma Police," Subterranian Homesick Alien," and "Climbing up Walls." Their cover of "No Surprises" is especially tear-jerking in LEO.
The album "He Has Left Us Alone but Shafts of Light Still Grace the Corners of Our Rooms" by A Silver Mt. Zion:
The perfect instrumental soundtrack for gazing into the Horrible, Frigid Abyss - Real "You will never be able to get home...You will be lost forever" music. Listen to this in the Outer Solar System and you will wet yourself a little. Brrr.
Iron & Wine - "Upward Over the Mountain" You might drift, dead, through nothingness for all eternity, but it's alright... At least according to the mood of this song. If anyone ever made an Orbiter-syle realistic space combat game, this is what I would want playing over the end credits, after you sacrifice yourself to stop the villain and don't have enough dV to stop, showing you drifting through interstellar space forever, intercut with people on Earth and its colonies rebuilding their lives, and hope returning to the Sol System.
Well, that's my list of a few good tracks; now let's hear yours!
