There are quite a few gems in the Half-Life and Portal soundtracks that fit Orbiter nicely.

I think they really nailed this soundtrack. Imagine looking down at your feet and seeing nothing but stars beyond.

The only music fit for space is classical. Gustav Holsts Planets is obviously a popular choice here, and for good reason, you can put the right track on as you approach the corresponding planet, its awesome!
Maybe David Bowie for laughs...

What do listen to in space?

As crazy as it sounds i like to listen to MLP music there is a lot of very good music by the community. Very catchy to. Most recently listened to are by
SimGretina, Aviators, and Saltlakritis.

Space and music is great. Not particularly in orbiter to my taste, but for movies and documentaries I love it.

I am waiting for the soundtracks from When We Left Earth by Richard Blair Oliphant. They still did not release it very sadly. I would buy it immediately!

Another one:

Just perfectly fits to the video and interview material they put together for the greatest space documentaries of all times, to my taste:

And the soundtracks from In the Shadow of the Moon are just epic. Even better than from Apollo 13 if you ask me:

That song that appeared in the TV spots for the movie Starship Troopers, "Song 2" by Blur:

And since I'm of the opinion it is possible to produce small, privately owned SSTO's (*), I imagine playing this song when "Cruising" to orbit with that special someone:

In that vein there is also "You Are My Starship" by Norman Connors:

And finally, because of the fact routine spaceflight is already possible and all that is required to achieve it is to "Free Your Mind", there is:

Bob Clark

(*)The Coming SSTO's.

I love music while I'm Orbiting. WHAT music I want to hear depends on what kind of mission I'm on.

For example, if I'm doing the KSC->WIA suborbital supersonic run, I listen to this:

No contest there.

If I'm already in orbit, I'm listening to something mellow like Space Man by Smash Mouth (which oddly enough, I can't find on Youtube...)

Edit: Here, just to give you an example:

For launch, some good hard and fast techno* or drum and bass is good. Things like these:

Now, reentry is a different story entirely. You need something HOT for landing. So a couple of suggestions follow:

* applies here, too.

Of course, there's the occasional exception on reentry as well:

As for interplanetary transfers... well. You just put your playlist on random and listen to whatever comes up. ;)

* Shut up, Lambo.

And sorry agian for your ears

(Sorry in advance, no links)

I use:

Half-Life OST: Space Ocean

Space Odyssey: Voyage to the Planets OST

Deus Ex: Invisible War OST: Mako Ballistics Interior

X-COM: UFO Defense OST "Geoscape" music (I use it in atmospheric flight and in bases.)

Deus Ex OST: Versalife

Unreal OST: Star Seeker

Unreal OST: Escape from Na Pali (Usually, I play it while taking off)

Half-Life 2 OST: Triage at Dawn (It started playing once just as my DG-IV's captain died...)

Deus Ex OST: Opponent Within (Return to UNATCO? Don't remember the name.)

X-COM: UFO Defense Interception Music. Look up the metal remix on Youtube. Good for heated situations like (heh heh) reentry.

Walking on the moon - The Police
The Dark Side Of The Moon (Album) - Pink Floyd
Angel - Massive Attack
For Whom The Bell Tolls - Metallica
Duke's Travels - Genesis
Flying In A Blue Dream - Joe Satriani
Disorder - Joy Division
Out Into The Daylight - Mike Rutherford

These are the song that I listen more often during my space travels. For the other songs I trust in the iTunes random mode! :)

The entire FTL: Faster than Light soundtrack is perfect for Orbiter. Some examples:

It's all very serene and, well, spacey.

And for reentry:
