I'd like to preface this post with a big thank you to the members of the Orbiter forum. While I am not an active poster here, I have been regularly visiting this forum for some time while gathering visual reference material for the film mentioned below. This forum proved to be an invaluable resource for me, and my job would a have been much more difficult without you.


This Thursday it will have been three years since NASA launched STS-119, tasked with putting the finishing touches on the International Space Station. As many of you may recall, the shuttle mission carried with it an unexpected stowaway: a small, free-tailed bat who clung to the external fuel tank during lift-off. In memory of that historic event, I offer you the untold story of that launch, and the fate of NASA's first bat-stronaut...
