Found this blog while searching for vintage SF stuff and look at this...

Behold the Star Bird, a toy spaceship from 1979 that featured working photon guns (it had, well, LEDs that emitted photons, so "photon guns") and a mechanism that would change engine sound effects depending on the toy's (er, starship) attitude. For something not based on any movie or TV series, it's IMHO very well designed and detailed.

There was another vessel too, named "intruder" which would make for a nice shuttle:

That was one of my favorites also. The fins were supposed to be docked parasite fighters AFAICR. (That would be kinda cool to simulate.) The sound effects were marketing's secret weapon.
