Found this blog while searching for vintage SF stuff and look at this...
Behold the Star Bird, a toy spaceship from 1979 that featured working photon guns (it had, well, LEDs that emitted photons, so "photon guns") and a mechanism that would change engine sound effects depending on the toy's (er, starship) attitude. For something not based on any movie or TV series, it's IMHO very well designed and detailed.
This is a picture from the rear side:
There was another vessel too, named "intruder" which would make for a nice shuttle:
