Gaming Subnautica & Subnautica Below Zero

The trailer, which is pretty cool:
There's at least two new Leviathans already shown. And I WANT THAT HOVERBIKE.

I did buy it, and put a hour or two into it.

There's more work already here than I thought. It does have some rough edges, as you'd expect, but it's perhaps a little further along than the original game was at its EA release. I've not hit anything I'd consider to be a bug, barring some animation oddities when using certain tools - and the story is obviously under construction, but still - it's a lot of fun!

I made a little video about the game, which I put on the Tube, you can find it here;

Don't tell me the sharks have "frick'n lasers on their heads".

If you are interested in Subnautica, you may like a release called Dawn of Man. Its from the same company that made Banished. All on Steam.
DOM is more a management and less an exploration than Subnautica, but it has a gentle and charming attitude to gameplay.
Well, it makes me nod off...

Have bought DOM weeks ago (Because of Banished), is great to play the tutorial, but on a regular map, my GPU crashes fatally...

Did I mention that I need a new one notebook?

Quite enjoying DOM, but as usual I'm running out of things to do. Its early days in the development, so hopefully they are making additional content.
I do like the task management system, bit easier than Banished.

So, is there ANY way to get Subnautica other than Steam?

I ask because I have tried 7 or 8 times now to create a Steam account, with no luck. Each and every time I try I am told that the username I have chosen is "Unavailable".

I have tried first name-last initial, first initial-last name(my last name is quite uncommon BTW). I have tried my OF username. I have even tried random characters, all to no avail. Everything I try is "Unavailable".

This looks to be a fun game, but if Steam is the only way to get it, it's beginning to look as though I will never get a chance to play it.

Any ideas as to what I might be doing wrong?

Its a Steam only release, there are other ways of getting it, but it is against forum rules to discuss how and where (it is potentially Illegal depending on local laws).

I would reach out to Steam support, it sounds like there might be an issue there.

To rule out actual Steam username conflicts (and Steam is huge), you could try adding four random digits to your new Steam username when you sign up, like "someusername9128". If that still gives you a "Username is unavailable" error, then it definitely sounds like some highly unusual error that will require Steam support to resolve.

But once you're signed-up, Steam is awesome! And so is Subnautica, BTW. :tiphat:

Steam is evil. The tool of the devil. The curse of your bank account. Especially its minions, summer and winter sale

But Subnautica is really a recommendation. Its one of the games I miss most since the demise of my GPU (But now that the Christmas shopping gets slowly done, I can finally plan the replacement.)

I dunno, the thing i like about Steam is that games Just Work. You don't need to install anything, crack anything, fix anything, neuter anything. Just buy a game and play it.

And their streaming implementation is great - i can play anything on a simple tablet from anywhere within 20 copper millilightseconds of my place.
