Preparations continue for the launch of the Thuraya-3 mobile communications satellite for Thuraya Satellite Telecommunications Company, based in the United Arab Emirates. We have had to delay this launch on a day-to-day basis, due to high winds and strong ocean currents at the launch site. We are now planning for launch on Tuesday, Nov 20, at 7:29 am PST (15:29 GMT). We will begin our live launch coverage at 7:15am (15:15 GMT). All systems are nominal.
Sea Launch's Zenit-3SL rocket resumes operations with this flight, carrying the Boeing-built Thuraya-3 mobile communications satellite into geosynchronous transfer orbit. Once operational, this satellite will expand Thuraya's network coverage to include all key markets of the Asia Pacific region.

Radarsat-2

RADARSAT-2 is an Earth observation satellite scheduled for launch in December 2007 on a Russian Soyuz launch vehicle by the Canadian Space Agency. It has a Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) with multiple polarization modes. Its highest resolution will be 3 m with 100 m positional accuracy.
The prime contractor on the project is MacDonald Dettwiler and Associates (MDA), who have previously built projects such as the Canadarm. Other collaborating companies include EMS Technologies and Alenia. EMS Technologies Space & Technology/Montreal division was bought by MDA in 2005. RADARSAT-2 is owned and operated by MDA.
RADARSAT-2 is a follow-on to RADARSAT-1. It will have the same orbit (798 km altitude sun-synchronous with 6 p.m. ascending node and 6 a.m. descending node). RADARSAT-2 should be separated by half an orbit period (~50 min) from RADARSAT-1 (in terms of ground track it would represent ~12 days ground track separation). It is intended to fill a wide variety of roles, including sea ice mapping and ship routing, iceberg detection, agricultural crop monitoring, marine surveillance for ship and pollution detection, terrestrial defence surveillance and target identification, geological mapping, land use mapping, wetlands mapping, topographic mapping.
As of Nov 2007, RADARSAT-2 has completed all tests at David Florida Laboratory and is starting its launch campaign.
