First of all, props to Sputnik for the Velcro Rockets. I learned how to do staged rockets from his addon before I learned about any other method and I still to this day love it

Now second, I have noticed that when I launched a mission to the moon to as NASA did back in the day to look for a landing site, that when I snapped out from 1st person to 3rd person, the probes orbit changed quite a bit. To test this, I hit F1 over and over again until my perfect orbit actually crashed into the surface of the Moon. Though I did not run the sim out to see if it was just a problem in orbit MFD or somehow magically my orbit changed my 20+km every time I switched w/o burning fuel, I am curious if anyone else else has noticed this behavior. The same scn that I used for my moon surveyer I have also tried using it to send a probe to Venus. After I do my burn to leave Earth's SOI, and I crank the sim up to 1000x to hurry up the boringness and the last stage that remains for my orbital insertion to Venus burns all it's fuel and ejects the 'probe' on the nose. I have included the scn file as I use it. Perhapse I placed a typo in there somewhere that is causing the wierdness

Code:

Huh. That is weird.

I'm not sure EXACTLY what you've got (and here a scenario where you're having the problem, not at launch, would probably help). But I was able to generate a similar failure when going to 1000000x time compression; once outside the SOI, the engine just takes off for some reason.
There's no reason for it in the code, and to fix it, I'll probably have to brute-force some bastardized solution like forcing the engines off at 1000x and above, or something.

I'm not sure if building your stack, or at least the last stage, as a CVEL launcher will get around the problem. I suspect it might.
Meantime, put the following in your S-IVb section:

IGNITENEXT 0

This won't fix the problem, but at least it will prevent it from spreading to the D-IV stage, preserving that for Venus OI.

thx dude, I will give it a try and see if it works...

gonna place IGNITENEXT 0 in the delta stage as well since I will be using that to most likely place the stack in to the atmosphere to do aerobrake. I also noticed another typo where the probe itself has no fuel...

do I just add IGNITENEXT 0 or do I subtract something too

--Edit--
Hey Sputnik, I still had the problem at max accleration so got any other susgestions?

Try making the Delta IV stage a CVEL stage of the S-IVb, instead of using SERIESBURN. I don't know if that will make a difference, but it might.

Other than that, I'm out of ideas.

I hope this isn't too big of a question to ask your Sputnik, but can u use the above scn file to make the modifications your refering to? I tried doing it myself but for some reason the darn thing crashes orbiter when I try to load it

Here it is. But, interestingly, it doesn't fix the problem -- I still get thrusters on at very high time compressions.

Ok good, well not good... I thought I was doing something wrong and it wasn't working for just me and I was somehow being singled out in the great orbiter galaxy. Is this going to be an official bug at this point and corrected in the next release of Velcro Rockets?

-----Posted Added-----

Thought I would add some infomation to this for ya Sputnik...

It seems that it has nothing to do with time acceleration short of the fact that the stage fires at a specific distance from Earth, I thought I would get around this by advancing time instead of accelerating with the same effect. I am VERY curious as to why my rocket is doing this so if u find out please post
