Sounds much better than "GalaxyOneOne"

Maybe Eliminator would be a better merger of the names...

Maybe they should just call it "Elon"

Though from the press release:
ULA is asking America to help name its next rocket, calling on citizens to play a role in the future of space launch by naming the new rocket that will be responsible for the majority of the nation’s space launches.

That's gonna be difficult to achieve. SpaceX seems to be on a roll right now...

Which executive's 7 year old son was allowed to pick the finalist?

I think they may have stacked the deck for eagle, but I'm with statickid. I just cast about a hundred votes for GalaxyOne just so stick it to them. Though 'muh Freedom rocket' could be funny too.

The first two names seem like so much nationalistic BS, and the third name sounds like a movie title, prompting one to ask, "When to we get to see Galaxy 2 and 3?"

It seems that names for launch vehicles suffer from the same lack of creativity as all these remake/reboot/sequel movies, as well.

Maybe we should name them after 1970s car names which are no longer in production:

Pinto
Pacer
Gremlin
Trans Am (complete with the Pontiac Firebird logo painted on the fairing, of course)
Monte Carlo

I, for one, would love to fly on a Trans Am rocket.

Eliminator is by far the bettrer of the two albums, being the last album before ZZ Top totally sold out to 80s synth nonsense pop garbage (but more recently have gone back to being a legit Texas blues rock band).

So, Eliminator.

But I'm still going for Trans Am. Or maybe Malibu SS.

Hey, has anybody ever been stumbling through the parking lot of an invisible Seven-11?

Hey, there's the name for the rocket! 7-11!

I'm sure someone can come up with some meaning for the numbers (Atlas 4-0-2), 7-1-1, but we'd call it the 7-11.

Wow. Just...wow
First of all, the EELVs were supposed to last until ~2030.
So we see just how disruptive a certain company has been.

Anyway, I think that "Eagle" needs to be retired as a spacecraft name. You can't just try to evoke Apollo whenever you need good PR for your space project. :nono:
Plus, I don't want to see a competition between Falcon and Eagle. Just...no thanks.

"Freedom" is cheesey for the reasons mentioned.

"Galaxy"- once translated- has essentially already been taken :uhh::

But "Raptor" is far better than both.

But the others are used for more than just air shows....

If we should ever name it after the most successful aircraft in modern history, it would become a "Thunderbolt III"...

Heck yes! Put a shark mouth on it too. Might as well make it look cool while we're at it.

Of course!

And again find a reason to paint ACME on spaceflight hardware ...

Naturally the rocket would be shipped in a large, wooden crate, and some assembly would be required...

Why... Come to think of it... Our friend Urwumpe here would indeed be one of the biggest customers!

If I recall correctly, the F-15 holds the record of over 100 air-to-air victories in real war operations, with no losses.

"Phantom II"...

Yes - and the Raptor is still waiting for its war.

But still, nothing beats the Warthog in the discipline of ordnance payload delivered, number of sorties flown and availability. (What you also expect of a launch vehicle)
