I was rummaging through my fluid mechanics lab getting ready for classes and stumbled across this thing. It is a Pyrex tube with a loop in it, and is filled with what appears to be glycerin with about an inch of headspace when held upright. The stopper apparently can be removed. There are no marks on the tube except for the word PYREX at the top.

Any thoughts at all as to what this is for?

Thanks!

That's it! Thanks! The fluid is most likely mineral oil for the bath.
