It almost feels like I was born in the wrong decade. That bass line and the synth do all the magic.

Sadly he is no more, he was one of the few constants in the world. :(

Well, he wrote his own history already alive, there will be a lot to be said now and a lot of "Don't try this at home kids" will be between the lines. I doubt many "journalists" will remember that he was a better role model in 70 years than many Disney Channel teenage stars today.

Ah! The small advantages of listening to your home made HF transistor radio. :) Heard a great, bluesy version of the Beatles´ "Help!" on WMRI, along with some other cool blues, and I'm really sorry I cannot find any of the songs online to share them.

Disadvantages, there's a lot of religious stuff, too, but Radio Havana puts that right. That, on the other hand, is great deal adulation of Marti, lol!

I was playing with my shortwave radio the other day and ran across a Spanish-language "numbers station". Creepy stuff.

Interesting. Never heard that, did you get the frequency? As my contraption is home built, I cannot determine frequencies with exactitude, but it is wound to broadly receive between 6 to 11 or so MHz, which it does. I have heard some data transmissions that seem to be a channel, as they occur very near each other in pairs at points accross the range. I have to use the fine tune capacitor to differentiate the pair, so they are about 5 to 15 KHz apart, by estimate. I suspect they might be some DRM thing or another, but I don't know enough about that to say.

Someone I knew once in England claimed they used to pick up Woodpecker, when it was active. I wanted to see if I could emulate that and pick up Jindalee OTH radar from Australia, but I fear it would be impossible, as it polarized the wrong way from me.

I have a cheapo radio with an analog dial, so I don't know the exact freq, but it was just above 10MHz IIRC. Internet research leads me to believe this is a Cuban spy station, since it was a bunch of numbers followed by what sounds like a data transfer modem screech, repeated several times, and apparently this station changes frequencies often, so unless you are a Cuban spy with the secret decoder ring from the box of Cracker Jacks you will have to hunt around the dial to catch it again.

The numbers Andy, what do they mean!?

So for Christmas my mom rummaged through my Amazon wish list and surprised me with this: A vinyl copy of this live Rush album from 1974, recorded less than a month after Neil Peart had joined the band. Wow! This is so awesome, Peart is obviously eager to get out there and prove himself and the band is super high energy, plus the rawness of the recording makes it sound like Rush is playing at some killer house party somewhere.

My mom is awesome!

ETA: this is what I played it on, my old 60s vintage Garrard record changer that belonged to my dad and which I recently had repaired to full working order.

For some reason I was, at best, a casual Cure fan back in the day, but recently I've been listening to this whole album end to end.

Sorry, still listening to...

Cameras didn't move much in those days, nice framing though!

Might as well be hung for a sheep as a lamb:

Best throw this in for total lack of credibility:

I'm trying to track down a song, 90% sure that it is the Talking Heads, heard it on the radio a couple of times recently. Sounds possibly from a live album. It kinda sounds like this, but this isn't it:
