Hello,I bought a new computer in September an HP D7 laptop win7 X64 nvidea 650M graphics card, and all has been working great, accept a few weeks ago the windows update, won't find any updates anymore, and the HP support assistant, which automaticlly finds updates, has also stopped finding updates,I
do not think it's a virus, I have ran my antivirus software several times, and nothing seems to show up,I am thinkng of restoring to an earlier date, but I don't know if I can go back far enough before the problem or,the problem might be one of the windows updates is corrupt,I have tried the microsoft update fix,and it apparently didn't work.Could I go back, and uninstall all the win7 updates, and then have it find them, and reinstall them for me?,if that's even possible. What should I back for orbiter2010P1 if I decide to resore.Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

What does 'a few weeks ago' mean? Are you sure there actually are new updates available? I don't recall having an update lately either, come to think about it...

Just the Orbiter folder. Anyway, System Restore shouldn't remove any personal files, so I don't think a back-up will be necessary. It can't hurt, though.

Microsoft generally releases updates every second tuesday. the next update batch is around 13:00PST on 13th Nov.

I thouh that Microsoft will stop release updates for Win7 because of the Win8 (upcoming), release.

But why? They still have been releasing recently (as of Oct. 9, 2012) hotfixes for Windows XP SP3.

Nope, if that's the case Microsoft would already became bankrupt.

The earliest Windows version that Microsoft still supports and release updates is Windows XP SP3 (to early 2014, IIRC).

You may want to check to see if your computer has contracted the TDSS rootkit, That was the cause when I couldn't update my Win7.

There are two levels of support for windows. 'Mainstream' support and extended support.

Windows XP is out of Mainstream support so it is not possible to log calls against it with Microsoft nor will Microsoft fix any bugs. It is in extended support until April 2013. That means that any security holes found after that date will be left unpatched.

Windows 7 extended support ends on 14th January 2020
