what sort of features are built into this? will it be like the DGIV with an autopilot system?

and will it be UCGO compatible?

thanks

I think the XR fleet manual answers the UCGO compatibility question pretty well
XR Flight Operations Manual-2.1.pdf said:
UCGO Support
The XR fleet does not support UCGO cargo modules natively: since UCGO does not
use attachment points to manage cargo and has a limit of 40 UCGO cargo modules
per vessel, natively integrating it with the XR payload system would be a prohibitive
amount of work as well as severely limit the XR5's carrying capacity. However,
Woo482 has written UCGO Cargo Deck XR payload modules for the XR2 and XR5 that
allow you to carry up to six (XR2) or 288 (XR5) UCGO cargo modules by using
multiple XR cargo vessels (payload racks) to get around UCGO's 40-payload-moduleper-
vessel limit. You may find a link to Woo482's latest UCGO Cargo Decks on the
User Downloads page on my Web site here: http://www.alteaaerospace.com/index-

The XR2 Mk1 was something.
This...unbelievable depth and immersion.

Caught up with the screenies since the last visit.
I don't care if it's still a WIP...at this point, I would pay for this.

Where's the donate button.

Since this is such a fine add-on, I don't mind nit-picking a few things. As doing that can only serve to make it all the better.

Now, why is this this way -- when you press on the up arrows for setting the rate, the numbers decrease. And when you press on the down arrows, the numbers increase?? Shouldn't it be the other way around??

Are we simulating rotary knobs of a sort?

I think they are following Orbiter's ROT/AFC/TRANS controls, which mimic the logic of a flight stick. Up to pitch/move down, and down to pitch/move up.

I've found myself nearly crashing into the ground a few times with the descent hold autopilot when trying to slow down, though. It's a bit counterintuitive at first, but easy to get used to.

I can understand why XR2 and XR5 don't use UCGO natively, but I've got a quick idea I want to share...

One of the point of some users wanting UCGO support in vessels such as the XR2/5 is to be able to use fuel and oxygen carried in the cargo bay... However, I think there is a workaround that could work to accomplish the objective.

If the UCGO XR2/5 pallet "consumes" the UCGO fuel and oxygen it carries and sets it's XR payload properties so that it reflects the mass of consumable in an XR-friendly way, wouldn't that achive the same result?

will there be a spotlight for docking on this craft?
I would recommend that since orbiter 100830 supports local lightsources

There's one on the current XR2. I imagine this will be a feature of the MK2 as well given that it's already implemented.

XR2 + local light sources = Pure WIN, I was flying it at the first phase, and I forgot to turn on the SCRAM, and to pitch up, etc, and when I heard "Mach Ten" I suddenly startled, and the whole plane blasted white hot, luckily, into the sea.

Ohh, I will finally ask the question I know everyone who read this thread wanted to ask:

When will it be out? (approximately, I don't want you to rush and release something bad, just so I can know when to start hoping)

Wait a minute...

On Tuesday?

I can bet on it:the answer will be Tuesday.

I will bet 100 $!

Defiantly Tuesday.

But seriously, I think we'd all rather wait for the XR2-MkII to be perfect, than get an estimated release date which might cause things to get rushed.

At least, I am. I'm quite happy with the XR2. I love that bird, and I can wait forever and a day for the Mk-II because, well, I'm sure I'll love her just as much.

one question:
could the lights be separated for more realism?

for example, in the NAV lights at the moment, it turns on both NAVs, docking light, and landing light. i also propose (if its possible) a rotating or flashing beacon (used in real aircraft to show it is active; so get away from those engines!)

the lights put me off, because turning on the navs like i should for better realism and so on also puts a silly lighter area on either side of the nose, which i dont like unless im actually docking.

perhaps there could be a completely new panel for some ship functions, like cabin air supply management, lights (including some cool internal ones?) and im sure you people could think of some other systems to implement onto this new panel. (be serious guys- no super cannons or furry dice generators) i always thought some of the panels needed spacing out a little, but thats just preference.

other than that, the current xr2 is perfect in every way!

hope this is a constructive post!

Has anyone ever booted up Orbiter to find an alien plastered to the windshield of your favorite XR2? Happened to me once. I checked the VC from the co-pilot's perspective to find an alien staring back at me. Scariest thing ever to happen to me on Orbiter.

Just wondering if it was an Easter Egg, and if it was, if it would be on the new XR2.

Set your computer system date to Halloween and boot up Orbiter. ;)

Yep, it is an Easter Egg. As for being in the MK-II - some of the screen shots have him on the cockpit. You never know!

I agree it is a amazing addon for orbiter and i would rather wait another year for a completed addon instead of 60% of it being cut in order to make a deadline.

Off topic:What happens when a thread hits over 100 pages?

on a serious note now, my earlier post about lights and an additional panel, is it both possible and practical? having a realistic craft that requires a higher level of control, over more systems than just navigational would be good.

Whether you're being buzzed by UFO's, pestered by pesky pirates, or you're simply a stressed out, underpaid pilot dying for sly smoke in the toilet... worry no more, the MK2 extends your capabilities for the 22nd century!

PESKY pirates?! :ripped: You know, to who you're talking, huh?!

No, just joking, your XR2 MKII looks perfect! (I can already see my alien Jolly Roger on the sides of it!) :threadjacked:
