hang on, just a thought, is this the long awaited "Active VC" version? i got confused when the 2006 MapMFD was stuck targeting the cape in the VC.

and will there be more easter eggs for us to find, or less? i noticed a nice line in the CFG where you can add the furry dice to teh VC (an awesome addition)

actually, looking at the pics i found on scifi-meshes (http://www.scifi-meshes.com/forums/showthread.php?76557-XR2-MK2-Work-in-Progress&highlight=coolhand) im gonna have to hurry up and get my new computer, coz this laptop has no chance of running something that awesome, unless those models are the most efficient in the world, and theres some pretty god-like texturing going on.

Off topic:What happens when a thread hits over 100 pages?

What about the screenshot thread? Last time I checked, it had 112 pages.

But on a more XR2-related topic, how do you turn on the spotlight on the current XR2? I can't find it.

I just realized I made the thread hit 100 pages. Nothing happened. Darn.

Turn on the NAV lights on the upper panel. This will not only blink the red and green nav beacons, but will enable the spotlight.

Please people, keep the discussion on the topic.

Discussing how many pages the thread had hit doesn't make sense, because number of posts per page can be changed in the user control panel. It's merely 38 pages here, from my point of view.

And this isn't a topic on the current version of XR2 Ravenstar either, but a development thread for the next version.

What I hope to see in the next revision of the XR2 is the option to egress using the cabin hatch... It would be quite helpfull when crash-landing, gear collapsed and nosecone damaged... Pop the hatch, and a press of EVA allows the selected passenger to appear as an UMMU next to the downed ship...

I'm not sure if this has been said yet (since you can't search individual threads  ) but I really hope this has an ejection option, that saved me many times with the DGIV and it's really the only thing making me use the DGIV over the XR2.

The issue of ejection, has been covered, and as i understand it there will be no ejection. As the XR-2 is meant to be something like a Business jet rather than a jet fighter. so no quick way to save your crew other than a good landing.

dont depend on an eject, just make sure you arent hitting the ground like a brick, and you'll be fine, you do have wings you know...

anyway, does anyone know what sort of poly count there will be in the final release
(just a rough guide) compared to something like the DGIV? im getting a new computer next week, but this looks like even a new one might struggle, what with the quality of the textures and all the internal polys in the passenger area.

cant wait for this :D

Have you ever thought of doing somthing more .. millitary .. like a fighter and less passenger transport? because i am druling over the level of details and how nice the textures are on this thing i love it its a damn nice ship.Love the mk1 too. and not just the 3d stuff but the cockpit and the avionics and check lists and so on alot of work has ben put in the mk1 and im sure the mk2 and it shows and pays off.

Its making the creators look good and reflects alot of how can i say... passion maybe? passion for orbiter and your baby ravenstar and we are lucky to get to fly her.

This being said if in the future you created somthing roughly based on a more military bomber or fighter type with the level of details you put in these ravenstars....it would leave a bunch of us to only be able to say... WOW .. im sure :)

Delta gliders ect this .. alot of passenger ships.....imagen if you made a fighter....I am impressed non the less it looks ....damn sexy if you dont mind me saying.

Every time I pop in here she looks even more beautiful. It's going to be a real treat to fly when it's done.

This is kind of weird, but would there be any way to have an option to keep the pilots' helmets on inside the ship? I just like anonymity in my crews; it's more natural and immersive for me in something like Orbiter - Like how some video games choose to have the main character never talk. Every time I fly the XR-2 I find myself thinking, "This isn't my ship, it's that guy & girl's ship..."

Admittedly that's a bizarre hangup, and you've outstripped my imagination in coming up with things for the Mk II; I'll be looking forward to getting my hands on it.

That's a very good observation. In fact, I often pick the "crewless" option for those craft that allow it (such as Greg Burch's fine spaceships), but then feel disappointed as it makes the craft seem empty. Anonymizing (is that a word? ) the characters with a flight helmet or some such might just be the best compromise.

But I am sure I will get hours and days of fun flying the new XR-2 regardless!

Is there a release date for the MkII? A quartal of a year will be enough for me! And when get the nice XR5 a virtual cockpit? A version without working MFDs would be nice for the begin, because complet without vc a vessel loses mutch simulation stuff, its then more like an "unmanned" vessel, a kind of reusable rocket than a nice spaceplane. I saw at EVAs that XR5 has intern a rudimentary vc, maybe theres a way to make this usable first time?

Reading even the last page of this thread would have informed you that there is not currently a release date. It will be ready when it's ready, as I feel I've said a good ten times in this thread already.

Look up top, where the "Search this thread" button is. ;)

OF Staff Note: Nine off-topic or otherwise irrelevant posts have been removed from this thread. Please keep the discussion on topic as previously requested by staff.

If the developers of the XR2 MK2 have anything noteworthy to post regarding the vessel's development, they will post it here. Posting requests for status updates is therefore unnecessary.

Roll on release... I like the look of her and can't wait to vandalise the tex. (shaking paint aerosol)
The main illistration pics are fantastic Coolhand. Can't imagine the workload you guy's have got. But I'm very much looking forward to this release as I love the XR2 over any other design and I'm glad the design is being upgraded.

why can i not get to any of the pictures? i keep getting 404'd on almost every picture here (only a few appear in actual posts instead of links, others cant load :hmm:)

the only ones ive been able to get at are a few on the first page (not the big long list) and some on scifimeshes once i searched "XR2", and both of these are diffrent...

some up to date ones would be nice, or knowing which ones actually go into orbiter

thanks

The original post in this thread is very old. It is not surprising that most of the image links in it no longer function, as they relate to the development of the original XR2, rather than the MK2. Try looking later in the thread for more recent images.

Those picture are beautiful thank you coolhand and evedybody in this project i am glad to download it on my Orbiter 2010 P1 and are you working for a open beta?
