And you thought you are only risking getting your boat kidnapped in Somalia?

Looks like the Navy might need to send in their Special Forces.

RIAA might like to see how many songs pirates download there in Somalia.
And if you did not know, piracy is caused by global warming, there is a correlation between both.

You've got it the wrong way around. Global warming is caused by the reduction in the number of pirates (see attached graph), so the Somalians are actually trying to reduce global warming, both by increasing piracy and decreasing oil usage.

Man that sailboat looks like crap. Bet it's been idle for 1 year+. I have a Catalina 22 btw. :)

I'm jealous. You can see my current sailcraft in my avatar - not quite a Catalina 22 but at least I can put it on the roof of my car ;). The boat is somewhat decrepit and imagine the smell after having those seals lounging around on it. It nearly brings me to tears to see boats sitting neglected on moorings in the Parramatta River year after year.

That was going to be my point. While I was last in Florida there were several large sail boats that the marina reproted that the slips are paid for each year and yet, there they sit. Never anyone on them. In them. Or sailing them. That is way to much money to let rot. This one .... no signs of life for the last 15 years estimated by marina

Its sad that people put so much money into it and all it serves to do is catch bird poo.

...and people wonder why they are going in debt and loosing their home.

If it sinks, the ship is "sealed"

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Too true.

Before I sold my sailboat a couple of years ago (Newport 30, 30' long and 30 years old), it sat idle at a marina I didn't really like...the place was more a "parking lot for boats" than an active seagoing community. 99% of the boats just sat there and never went out.

But my first marina WAS a really great place to do boating...not only was the sailing better, the people literally stayed on their boats much of the time they weren't out on the water. The spirit was much better for boating, conversations about boating, living with boats...:)

I sometimes wish I could have a small boat. In Berlin, there are many small channels where you can travel with a motorboat, think it would be pretty cool to have such a place to chill in the summer.

Though a sailing boat would be way cooler... but only useful on large lakes or the ocean.

We also have plenty of rivers in Costa Rica...
Filled with garbage, some of them are like an open sewer and some other have untreated chemicals dropped by industry.
So you would have a nice time if you wanted to have a boat to learn about biohazards and chemistry.

Pah that 3rd arm and tentacle would be a great conversation piece though.

Around here the Potomac River just south of Washington, DC, is a fine place for sailing smallish boats. Not wide enough for yachts and stuff, though. If you have a small lake where sailing is not prohibited, maybe you could use a Sunfish? They are small and easy to sail, and they can be carried on the roof of your car. I can't remember if they are big enough for two people or not (ie. a girlfriend).

Lasers (and Laser 2s) are popular near us on the Parramatta River. About the same size/weight as a Sunfish. The Laser can be sailed two handed (as long as you are not too heavy) but the Laser 2 is specifically designed for two.

My scout group had two NS-14, a 14' 2-3 man sailing dinghy, that gave us a lot of fun. I'll never forget ripping the rudder off one in gale force winds on Lake Illawarra
