Thanks guys. I just got a look at this late Sunday.

---------- Post added at 10:32 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:05 PM ----------

I got the RMS dialogue box to work but the keyboard commands give a curious response.~10 degrees of sholder elevation, 5 degrees +Z elbow flexion, random wrist motion (with keypad-2 command), then no motion with any keypad command. The RMS will respond to dialogue box commands though.

What commands are you sending to the arm, and what is the starting position? If you use the keyboard commands when the arm is in its initial position, its movement will be fairly restricted, because the shoulder/elbow joints will be close to their limits.

I get an anomalous response from any command I give through the keyboard in either Atlantis cockpit or STS-126 docking scenario. The RMS dialogue box works only for the shoulder, elbow, & wrist radio buttons but the translation and stow buttons do not.

This is a view of the RMS in the Atlantis cockpit scenario:
Panel A8
RMS MODE ORB UNL
RMS SEL PORT
The guard over RMS POWER doesn't move
Ctrl+A for RMS Control
Keypad-2
rmsglitch.png

Though the RMS is released it seems tethered to the aft supports.

you are trying to rotate around the point of the EE, press the arrow keys , "Delete" and "insert" for translation.

What you're describing isn't a bug; it's a technical limitation of the RMS. In its cradled position, some of the joint angles are very close to their limits, so the arm's translation motion is very limited. In realife, the arm is manouvered to a pre-cradle position {SP=25.0, EP=-25.0, WP=5.0, WY=0.0, WR=0.0} before translation/rotation commands are used.

Also, the RMS Power switch is not simulated. This is another error in the checklists that we missed before release.

Well, speaking of missed steps in the checklists, PL BAY MECH PWR switches on R13L needs to be "ON" for the MPMs top operate. This is per the generic PDRS C/L, 1-3 ON-ORBIT INITIALIZATION.

Thanks, I think I've got it. I was experimenting with the keyboard and dialogue box commands to learn how to use the RMS. Does the Stow button in the dialogue box move the RMS back into its cradle or rotate the cradled RMS inboard for payload bay door closure?

Stow button doesn't do anything; in earlier versions, it would stow the RMS back in its cradle. There are a couple of buttons like this which don't actually do anything, but which haven't been removed from the dialog.

Since STS-127 was posponed due to the hydrogen vent leak, I thought it would be fun to translate the scenarios for SSU v1.06 to SSU v1.25 (STS-122, STS-123, STS-124, STS-126). I unzipped the appropriate packages and immediately ran into trouble with STS-122. Here's the edited scenario:

Opening the scenario results in this:

ssu122.png

When I start the scenario, the OBSS jumps to the stowed position on the starboard sill but the payload remains displaced.

Two questions:
1. What are the conventions for placing cargo in the payload bay?
2. How do I get the OBSS in the stowed position on the MPM's?

Thanks

The Columbus would be better attached to the 0:6,Atlantis but you may have to change the direction or rotaion of the attachment point or both. Remember the older payloads were done before the SSU shuttle's attachment points worked. You will have alot of fun changing them. ;) I will get around to it eventually.

Try changing the Shuttle to Discovery, but leave the wing name Atlantis. You have to change all the attachment from Atlantis to Discovery also. I had trouble with attachments while using different shuttles too.

BenSisko: I think the OBSS position is a bug with SSU, not anything in the scenario file.

SC,

The OBSS in the STS-122 addon has different attachment coods, it is attached to MPMs that are attached to a dummy attachment in the payload bay. It was done that way in the SSU 1.06. The OBSS config above is the one used in the SSU 1.25 release, and should fix the OBSS problem anyway.

There might be additional problems relating to the different config files, but there is a bug in SSU where the OBSS is initially displayed in the deployed position; the easiest way to see this is to start the STS-126 launch scenario and look at the OBSS position.
The bug occurs because the OBSS attachment position is only updated after the first timestep, so if the scenario is initially paused, the OBSS position will be incorrect.

I see.

Also I was wondering if the grappling could be made to, unattach the OBSS from the MPMs, then grapple with the RMS, without releasing it first.
