My business card says "Software Engineer", although we joke about actually being code-monkeys at work.
During studies I started to work in the automation industry (PLCs, embedded controllers, etc.), and I stayed in this field up to today...

High school student. Currently, I'm trying to get into a good college so I can get a degree in Aerospace Engineering. I wanted to be a fighter pilot, but the US Military is really strict about asthma.

Here and now
I have quite a few "jobs". I work at the town Cinema (run it when the owner wants a night off). In fact, that's what I'm doing right now.

I also tie christmas wreaths (in season), sit a fire watch tower (also in season), do "Smokey the Bear" for parades, school shows, etc. I'm also the town "fix-it" guy for things that no-one else around here works on like arcade games/coin-op vending, computer network wiring, light HVAC, machining, carpentry, electrical, plumbing - you name it. You break it - I fix it.

I've had a lot of different jobs in my life. I've had every job in the restaurant/bar business. I've worked in Law Enforcement (Army and civilian) and security (at a "massage parlor"!), and also been a professional "Deadhead/Hippie". I've been a machinist, race car fabricator, arcade manager/tech, industrial automation designer/fabricator, traveling dictionary salesman, etc, just to name a few.

Now I'm essentially "self employed" and using the skills I've acquired at all those jobs to pay the bills.

Pretty much anything that's legal, and someone will pay me for.

I had the same problem. And mine was a misdiagnosis. Doctor diagnosed me with asthma...while I was in the office to get treated for a chest cold & couldn't expel a certain volume of air. After I found out the Army wouldn't let me fly helicopters and the Navy and Air Force wouldn't let me fly jets because of it, got a second opinion and got it removed from my medical record, but turns out, you can't fly fighter jets if you've ever had a broken collarbone either. :( Navy recruiter told me even with the G-suit on, as soon as I got in the plane and pulled more than 2 or 3 Gs, my collarbone would re-break, snapping like a twig.

I am a photographer and GSM/CDMA communications systems engineer.

Part time, as demand presents itself, I'll do data recovery, and violent crime rape victim counseling.

A Mr. fixit I guess you could say. Im a gamer (Wow And Battlefield,Orbiter)but pondering on the idea of going to college for programming C++ so I can also help make Addon's for our favorite Orbiter simulator and maybe a job coding for a living.

Can't you smell my T levels?

Heh, I could say the same.

I graduated in automatic control and robotics, engineer degree, but honestly the course taught me very little practical stuff. Each graduate goes to work as a total freshman, unless he spent some time practicing extra at home. This is what I was doing, but in programming field, and what motivated me was Orbiter :)

So having such degree, I only worked as a programmer, and very little as a control engineer at my previous job. Now I switched to a programmer_only job and I create business software in [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Java_EE"]Java EE[/ame], sometimes aux tools in C++ ... for more money and with less expense, because the office is so close that I go there on foot whenever I can.

I've also decided to continue studies as a MSc. in Computer Science. Only 7 months to go. Thesis: Artificial Intelligence (Fuzzy Logic) in Direct Ascent Algorithm, so Orbiter again :)

Ah, and since you mentioned, I do get paid well but I live and will live with my parents, unless I find a good reason not to do so. It's nothing to be ashamed of. It's saving money by participating in a common economy, instead of selling your soul to the bankers by taking a 30 years lasting loan (at least in Poland). Such a loan and an own apartment also makes you a slave to your employer - you can't talk back much because you risk that you won't pay the loan / rent if you're fired.

I didn't know they were that strict about everything. I've got the same situation as you except that they probably won't let me in because of color blindness. :p But I want to be a pilot anyways.

Sorry for bumping this really old thread but I didn't want to start a new one with the same title..

you are adding relevant information - thus no necro!

I am a post graduate programmes administrator....gotta love the job title. Basically I spend all day telling students to read their handbooks..... seriously all of the students on here - pretty please read the handbooks and related information.

I'd like to get into graphic design - but these days that requires a degree in arts.....and that's not happening anytime soon.

I'm currently a web developer, and a programmer (ActionScript 3, though I'd rather code in C++), but sometimes I help the IT department with administrating the network of the company.

Tale! Help build a cockpit for Momo tovarisču Torntona Union! Who pomožet″?
After fixing some typos: мому -> моему, товарисчу -> товарищу, поможетъ -> поможет, it can be translated rather as:
"Guys! Help my friend Thorton build a VC for Soyuz! Who can help?"

No, correct translation would be "Could someone help my friend to create VC for Thortons Soyuz" ;)

By the way I'm electrical engineer and my current specialization is energy conservation management.

I'm currently an Electronic Engineering student, which involves studying electronic components & devices, domestic & industrial electrical installations, materials science, mechanical science, and basic Binary & C++ programming (<- I haven't started that bit yet, before I get any "requests")! ;)

Upon completion of my studies, I wish to join the Royal Air Force as a Fighter Pilot.

To space one day? We'll see, but I sure hope so! :)
