I think it's a good idea to open up a thread where everyone would post pictures of any natural landscapes, animals or plants that she or he ever took.

For starter, it's my pic of migrating cranes flying east-northwards over Moscow last Sunday. I counted 89 in this single flo... formation:

Added these, too...

Crucita, fishing village near Manta.

Some one's house, down on the coastal plain, taken from a bus...

Does not look interesting until you realize that the cloud is ash from an eruption of Pichincha. Took this from the balcony of where I live. The distant city in the low middle of the picture is Quito. If you look down to the right, just above the roof of the house in the foreground, you will see a fresh cloud of ash starting as the eruption continued.

Some US students and their teacher, a Greek vulcanologist, at the top of Pichincha. The crater is in the background, and what looks like clouds is in fact flouride (or flourine, I am no vulcanologist and forget now what the man told me it was) gas seeping out of the ground.

Volcano Tungurahua, in eruption.

Antizana, Ecuador, taken about 8 years ago. Pic quality lost a bit scanning, unfortunately. Camera, 1976 Pentax MG, and still going strong.

This is Liberty Dome, a rock formation in Yosemite National Park in California. I shot this picture with an old Minolta manual focus SLR on 35mm Kodak B/W 400CN film. When I had the film processed, I had the lab scan the negatives directly to a disk, so you're seeing the raw image from the negative here, with no extra processing. What you're not seeing is the even nicer print I made on fiber paper in the dark room from this neg. Since the print is on 11x14" paper, I haven't found a scanner big enough to scan it in, but no matter what you always lose quality scanning in film or prints. The way your moniter displays this image isn't exactly the same way you would see it with your eyes. I am rather proud of this photo, as I had to climb up a couple of thousand feet to get to this vantage point and it turned out nice. Click on it and look at it full-size; 400CN film is pretty hi-resolution for 35mm.

And of course, a classic shot of Yosemite Valley from the west end looking east. It's very hard to convey the massive scale of this place in a photograph. Unless you've actually stood at the base of El Capitan and looked up at the top of the cliff 4000 feet above you, almost a mile-high vertical stone face, you can't imagine the awe of this place. I have been there twice and hope to go back again soon.

At least my current camera is much better. :P

You guys have some very nice scenery and photos.

No such thing, really. As long as it doesn't have too many light leaks, a wonky old camera can still make beautiful photos. Your lens has aberrations around the edges, for instance, so that means you have to work within that limitation and work the blurry edges into your composition. Looks like you did fine to me!:tiphat:

Nice, do you have a bigger version of this?

Andy44: My old camera (Nikon S220) is terrible as in it produces a lot of noise, has bad low-light quality, and overall quality. I cannot adjust many settings manually (such as white-balance, aperture, and shutter speed). It does start to limit me more and more as I improve. My current one is a Canon Powershot S90. (I also burnt the S220 lens while photographing flames :P, maybe that's it.)

It's 800 * 600 pixels. If you want the full-size 10MP picture, PM me.

This picture is quite old already, it was taken on a film camera back in 2002:

This cutie dug a sap way out of the cell where his mother sat and made it a habit to run around the vacation house territory, scaring the guests. I had to defend three ladies, that's why I delivered him a slight kick in his side to keep away of our crowd. Given that he already was a size of a big dog then, I wouldn't want to relive the experience with the same bear now. As you can guess, it all happened in Siberia. :tiphat:

The following shows a close-up of a couple of roody shelducks who are resident to one very old and quiet park in Moscow, which is about 250 years old. In the recent years they return to the same pond every time in spring.

Wonderful, Nuke! What software do you think is the best for making such slide shows? Of course, I'm just a rookie with my nearly 10 years of marriage, but I want to make such a sentimental present to my dearest one too! :)

Since I've only used Windows Movie Maker, I really don't have an opinion of which is the best. Certainly there exists better.

Congratulations on "nearly 10 years of marriage"! Even in this day and age, 10 years is certainly no rookie achievement. But I had help making this, as my wife took about half of the summer photos. And my sister took the photo at the end of the latest version while we visited her in Seattle...our first full day there being our 25th anniversary.

P.S. Thanks for starting this thread. The YouTube posting seemed to be the best way to share a sample of the hundreds of nature photos I've taken over the years without killing the bandwidth of the forum.

This one isn't quite 100% "nature", but it makes a good contrast:
