I would definitely go to space if I could. In spite of all the risks, I give an arm and a leg just for an Al Shepard style mission. I guess if I could go anywhere in space, though, I would probably go on a trip to the moon.

A flight on spaceship one would be great. I would still be in the first generation of Astronauts. Although Buzz would disagree.

A flight around the Moon would take my breath away.:)

Well... I rely on several opinions:
My Conservative mind says 30%
My Intermediate mind says 50%
My Optimistic mind says 80%
My heart says 100%

Most likely mission: On flight surgeon on lunar outpost

Why not..If you have the Heart of a child.

Wanting to go there is the easy part. The hardest part is probably getting the opportunity to go there.

I would fly on a shuttle or Soyuz, or even a Shenzhou which are proven to an acceptable level of risk.

I wouldn't fly on an experimental mission to Mars with a 1/2 chance of survival. Maybe in 40 years if life is no longer so fun.

Whoever said "no" should be booted from O-F, in my opinion

Yeah, not one way to space. One way to mars(for a while, not just a day)? I honestly think I'd probably go; but I'm saying that now without any close relationships to anyone. First person to visit another planet? That's something I'd be willing to trade a couple decades for, especially if I was already 30 or 40. Now? I don't know; I'm 17, and I don't know how my life will unfold; but its certainly something I'd consider.

I've asked people that question and they've said no, due to the 'blackness', 'emptiness' and 'loneliness' of space. They don't quite realize theres a space station, and think the shuttle brought people to the moon.
What they don't realize, is the first man on mars is in their midst ahem, me
just kidding.

BTW it was DaveS and Spaced who said no.

Absolutely. Given free choice of destination, Saturn/Titan is a no brainer.

My ((possible)terrorist) enemy claimed that humans went to mars in the 70s... My mothers friend claimed that humans been to Venus and mars and Jupiter and Pluto since the 60s... My 2nd grade teacher was teaching us about the gas giants and said that you would pass through because it is made of gas I later corrected her by saying that the density of liquid hydrogen was so great that you would float and I was 7... Basic conclusion: The public is completely unaware of science

I was number one to vote no. Sorry you want to boot me Hielor, I mean no harm. I'm just not made of the right stuff, a terrible back seat flyer and my chances of piloting said flight are slim. I can't bear steep descents in an airline, I look out the window and think "boy he's put the flaps down early" etc. I hate queueing anywhere near the emergency exits. Just knowing they're weak spots, with a big red "Don't turn me!" handle gives me nightmares. So the thought of the rough and tumble of a rocket launch with all the potentials of things going wrong are forever gonna put me off.
Having survived orbit insertion with my sanity intact, I'd likely roll into a shivering a ball trying to find the furthest point from a docking port.
No-one wants to the hear the first man on Mars whimpering at every bump and rattle during launch.

I don't post much, but I've felt like doing so in the dream topic threads. Most of my space related dreams tend to be white knuckle, gritted teeth, terror filled and strangely surreal affairs. I probably have an underlying condition that could do with being looked at. But since I'm not going into space I don't think I'll bother.

I love simulating it all though, who here doesn't? I also enjoy simulating warfare, but I wouldn't want to do it for real.

Leaves a seat open for you guys that do want to go to space though. :)

Before you float, you would be crushed. Sorry.

I'd certainly go into space, and hopefully private spaceflight will become affordable within my lifetime. LEO and the moon would be great destinations, but places like Mars may be too far away for me. Hopefully suborbital flights to destinations around the world will become real in the next few decades.

In a heartbeat, in any way possible, to just about any destination.

I've had the dream kicking around since the Gemini Program...some of my earliest TV memories.

My wife and kids wouldn't be exactly happy about it....actually, they might like the break!

In the old Usenet days you would hear this sound: *PLONK*

I'd definitelly go to space on every opportunity.

While I can't afford rela spaceflight yet I'm in the process of saving money for trip to USA and a ride on vomit comet. My rough calculations says I can achieve this goal in 3 or 4 years.

Maybe in 20 years suborbital flights would become more common and affordable. Who knows...

Yes, most defiantly yes, I can't say why, I can only say yes.
