Jobs that sound awesome until you actually know what they're about: Submarines.

Yeah, I think that list is nearly infinite.

We currently study LA in geography, and we just talked about the diversity of (not only females) origins, and since then I know where to go to find the intresting ones ...

You're talking about LA at school? No kidding. Back when I was at school, it was all about natural resources and industry... Boooring. (Comes in handy nowadays though.)

London is another place with plenty of Asian women. And no murderous heat of L.A.

LA isn't that bad for the heat. When you get out towards Palm Springs and Barstow on the other hand...

Ok, I need a little help. Does anyone know the height and diameter of a ESPA ring? A trivial question, I'm sure, but I can't find it anywhere. :(

Well, except the map with all the social and origin diversity, it was all about "they do nothing for public transportation!" "they said their lifestyle cannot be negociated" "Look at them, look at them under that polluted cloud and laugh!"

So yeah, it was a different kind of boring anyway ...

Are you talking about the [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EELV_Secondary_Payload_Adapter"]EELV Secondary Payload Adapter (ESPA)[/ame]?

If so then to quote from wikipedia

ESPA was designed to support a 15,000 pounds (6,800 kg) primary payload and up to six 400 pounds (180 kg) secondary payloads. Each secondary spacecraft is mounted radially on a 15 inches (380 mm) diameter port and is allocated 24 inches (610 mm) x 28 inches (710 mm) x 38 inches (970 mm) volume.

What they're saying is indeed true:

- The public transportation is abysmal, so everyone must have a car. Everyone has a car, so they won't to spend money on public transportation.

- As for pollution, this is my photo taken form the Griffith Observatory -- find the skyscrapers on the horizon:

- Don't know what they meant by the lifestyle comment, but I give you some overpriced MacMansions on Canyon Drive (Hollywood):

...But, they also have this baby:

Partially True. Most of the denizens around here have cars (Ranging from Teslas to Taliban Taxis), but we do have a sizable Metro/Commuter Rail system, not to mention the Amtrak Surf Liner, which services most of the coastal cities.

Used to be *A Lot* worse. You'll never get rid of all of it, seeing as how 10 Million people live in LA County (Much more accurate metric than just LA, seeing as how it's one continuous blob :p), which is like a fifth of the population of England.

Yes but it's not an *enlightened* lifestyle. :p

We built them, too ;)

tl;dr You can't really complain about the US lifestyle/Culture, since we're like that whiny 13 year old who thinks that black eyeliner and clothes from Hot Topic are edgy and cool, compared to Europe and the rest of the world.

Believe it or not, the US consists of more than New York City, and California.

Ah, submarines... I think the job description is along the lines of "sinking with style".

The part that puts me of is low oxygen and beds being shared. I just like not being grumpy and having my own bed, which might have a connection.

I'm not complaining, I'm just saying that the image of LA projected in popular culture is much different than reality of LA. LA looks good at night (and in the movies), in daylight it's just... not very impressive. (Still better than NYC, though.) To put it differently, if I look at my current quality of life in Poland, achieving this standard in L.A. would require much more money, due to things like extremely expensive real estate, long commutes and the need for air conditioning most of the year.

There's one thing I really like about the US though, and it's the pro-business attitude. If I were ever to start my own business, I'd give serious thought to doing it in US. (Immigration difficulties notwithstanding).

Yeah, but London does not sit in the valley, so the wind can blow off the smog, and has a lot of rain which washes it down. LA has neither... the smog just hangs there in the air.
