not sure if I downloaded the wrong version but for some reason my rockets spawn like this:

Also going into the cockpit view seems to crash the game instantly

AHA! This is EXACTLY what happened to me !! Before I restored back to an earlier version. If you play with the camera a bit, you can see that there are additional launch pad structures below the surface. Can u confirm ?

Can you share the contents of your Orbiter.log file after running such a scenario? Place the contents inside [math][[/math]CODE[math]][/math] text [math][[/math]/CODE[math]][/math] tags.

Judging by the screenshot, and are you sure you installed the 2016 version, and not the Orbiter 2010 version?

I can confirm, I am having the same issue. Orbiter 2016, clean install, latest D3D9 client.

I checked my logfile but it's not showing anything out of the ordinary that I can see.

Found the problem. It was a human error, the download links are switched. for instance
"ProjectMercuryX-v1.3AOrbiter2010.zip (file version 1.3A)" is really for 2016 version and vice versa.

yep, that was the issue. extracted the 2010 version to the 2016 directory and replaced everything the extractor brought up. Works like a charm now!

Hello there!!

Brian Sikkema here, used to be known by the handle liljohn118th waaaaaay back in the day. I actually did some of the models (and a teeeeeny tiny bit of the coding - not holding a single candle to any of Rob Conley's work) on the original Mercury addon. I'm so glad to see someone do an updated addon!

I only wish I had time to assist with the project myself... Sadly, my involvement ended with the original back in about 2005/2006 as that was when I graduated college, got married, had a kid... you know, same old song and dance. ;) Every once in a while I find myself with some spare time and start to brush up on my 3d modeling skills again, but it never seems to last, sadly.

I'm excited to see where this addon ends up! :D

Hm, missed this earlier today.:hmm:

Thanks a lot!
I must say I'm impressed by the detail in these original mesh files. Much more was detailed than was ever programmed, such as the jet vanes in the Redstone exhaust and periscope inside the capsules. Really high detail, especially considering this was 15 years back!

Thank you for your work back then, and also for releasing it all under a permissive license!

Thank you! I just wish I could do more now, as there were always plenty of updates and inaccuracies I wanted to fix! lol But I am glad you are making use of them!

I thought we actually had programmed in the periscope door and periscope movement, although it may have just been a beta version that didn't see release... It's been so long I don't recall!

I also can't recall if I did the Redstone model or not. I may have. I feel like someone else did the Atlas, though. I know I did the capsules and I think the parachutes as well.

Back in those days I was using 3dsmax. More recently I've been using Blender for some things, but I've never tried to make a model for Orbiter with it. I know it's do-able, though.

I actually started work on a Mercury 3D cockpit in Blender for a completely different project (I'm kind of a Mercury nut), but it's probably not in any way suitable for Orbiter use yet. I really wish I had more time. :( As it is I probably haven't touched that model in over a year.

:hesaid:

I'm doing some meshes for this and yes, the original models hold up well.
Very clever texturing on the capsule. :tiphat:

Stop, you're making me blush!! lol I appreciate the kind words.

I'm actually curious now... I will take a look at my computer. I MAY have some of my old files... I'll let you know.

Loving everything so far and eagerly looking forward to future updates. One thing I would like to mention is that the Freedom 7 II name texture from the original Project Mercury add on is compatible with this new add on, it's just a simple drag and drop into the texture folder for the new Project Mercury:

Another thing worth mentioning is that the capsule in the Freedom 7 II scenarios (including the Vandenberg flight) is still set to capsule 6 (which is now a boilerplate), it should be fixed in the next update.

And we have a new release! (v1.4)

Main new features are:
  • Mercury-Scout 1 (modeled by 4throck). Mercury-Scout (or Mercury Network Test Vehicle, MNTV-1) was the launch of a satellite intended to check the capabilities of the Mercury tracking network in anticipation of the manned orbital missions. Sadly, the launch failed, and no more attempts of a Mercury-Scout were done. Now, for the first time, you can simulate the mission, and see how the satellite would have connected to the different tracking sites around the globe.
  • Skinning feature. Using either commands in the scenario or configuration file, you can replace the textures of the capsule, rocket, and other parts. See included skin scenarios for documentation.

And of course also the usual bug fixes. Capsule 6 is now back to Freedom 7II.
Download is on Orbithangar.
Regarding the Orbithangar link problem, it has been reported. It seems to work correctly now, but ensure that you install "ProjectMercuryX-v1.4Orbiter2010" in Orbiter2010 and/or "ProjectMercuryX-v1.4" in Orbiter2016.

The Atlas model makes a good Multistage2015 vessel as well. The only thing that has to be done is make a copy of the mesh file for the booster stage and add _1 to the end of the mesh file name.

Yes, an update of those early probes using Multistage2015 would be great....

Mercury-Scout is fun to launch. An early all solid vehicle, with an interesting flight profile.
It's harder to duplicate in Multistage, but worth doing to launch some early probes like Explorer 9...

The original Project Mercury textures gives this new add-on a retro Orbiter look:

If you notice the Atlas in the background, there's a major glitch in the most recent version of Project Mercury for Orbiter 2016, at capsule separation the booster stage respawns on the base of the Atlas.

Man, those launch-tower meshes look awesome now that we have anti-aliasing.
