Hey,

I don't know if any of you play Kebal Space Program and how much of a realistic experience you want but I noticed something that I would like to share with all of you. I dont know if it is the right place to say this, so, please feel free to move it an appropriate place.
Coming to the point, I dont know if any of you know already that there is a realistic scale solar system in KSP but the problem is that it uses Patched conics instead of true N-Body like Orbiter does. I found a mod that solves it and it is called principia. I played with it other than its complicated maneuver planning system it doesn't take much away from the game and you actually learn so much compared to the patched conics approach. RSS is already hard and with this KSP gets really hard. But one problem that I see is to station keep vessels when they are in orbit. This forum post says that it even models moon perturbations.

I didn't know about the Kerbal patch, I may give it another go.

You may be pleased to discover that the creator of Kerbal is a member here. In fact, many of us played around with KSP long before it was released. I enjoyed messing around with it, but some juvenile activity in the Kerbal forums drove me to other things.

Ah I read somewhere that KSP was actually inspired from Orbiter. Its nice to know that the creator is in this forum. KSP might have changed so many peoples goals and interests.

Yeah, it can be true because Orbiter 001127 (initial version) was released in 2000, while KSP 0.7.3 (initial version) was unofficially released in 2006. The official release of KSP (1.0) was debut in 2015.

I would like to play KSP someday, but unfortunately it costs $39.99 (2,951.20 rupees*), which is too expensive. This is one of the reasons I choose Orbiter instead of KSP.
----
* Since dollar-rupee ratio goes higher and higher, I would like to use (unofficial) Indian pounds (= 100 rupees) instead of rupees, which is comparable to British pounds (≈ 99 rupees). Therefore, $39.99 = IN£29.51.

AFAIK, the Orbiter forum was one of the first beta test grounds for it. I remember trying to achieve a stable Orbit with those very first parts and laughing my pants off over Jeb's stoner smile in the face of danger.

I have watched myriads of YT videos related to KSP gaming, and imagined how it will look like to play KSP in person. I have watched videos from KSP players like Marcus House, Matt Lowne, Scott Manley, ShadowZone etc.

Yeah, but still, I like the patched conics... Orbiter is the bigger challenge, but KSP allows to do more fun without needing to know complex rocket science... No perturbations, no n-body problems... just you and Kepler.

Hello everyone. I've spent a lot of time on KSP. There are many very cool mods for it, and we'd realy apreciate to see some of them on Orbiter. The coolest thing on KSP is that we have something to do in space (science, reco, etc...). It's fun to play, way more easy than Orbiter, characters are funny, and everything is about humor and destroying vessels. But KSP is, in some way, the oposite of Orbiter. In KSP you have to dowload tons of things to make it realistic. In Orbiter you have to download tons of things to make it fun ! If you want to make KSP something realistic using RSS or Principia, you'll have to dowload a bunch of things, and i've done that. It just made me nostalgic about Orbiter. And, as you can see here, i'm back to Orbiter, even if it's hardcore, klinky, complicated, "as ergonomic as a truck without wheels". But i've never felt nostalgic about KSP in Orbiter. It's just my personal point of view, of course, nothing more. DanSteph The Great is working on his addons, other "classics" have been updated, and other ones are WIP. Speaking for myself, Orbiter is still THE reference about space simulation.

I don't have Steam. :( What is it?

When I first knew about KSP, I thought of making space simulation as realistic as possible by using KSP and tons of mods. Since 2018, I am playing Orbiter and thinking of making space simulation as fun as possible by using Orbiter and some fictional vessels.

You never heard of Steam? It's Valve's (the creator of Half-Life) digital video game distribution service that most people use nowadays to market their games and buy them. KSP was put on Steam back in (I wanna say) 2013-14. It goes on sale all the time. https://store.steampowered.com/app/220200/Kerbal_Space_Program/

I recommend just buying the base game as the expansions are more-so niceties that you can add freely with mods. The expansions are cool, but no worth spending money on if you just wanna play the game. The modding community; albeit slowed down a bit in recent years, is still bursting with great quality, free content.

@Face I regret every time Jeb gets killed. I lost count of how many times that I have killed that poor guy. Initially, I didn't knew that we could bring the dead kerbonauts back and once I was out of kerbonauts.

@soumya-8974 If you install steam app and add KSP to your wish-list, you will get a notification when the price drops. That's how I got it for just 10eur. Its definitely worth the money.
Thank you! I shall install KSP after February 2021 since I will be quite inactive in this period (Dec 2020–Feb 2021).

I recommend keeping an eye on the price through December. It usually goes on sale for half off or more during major sales, and we're due a sale as Christmas approaches.

yep Harvester, the creator of KSP, is a member on here. I helped moderate his early forums. He got his inspiration for KSP from orbiter. His brother moach was on here as well and made the G42 starliner (i think it was)

The only thing I really miss in Orbiter is vessel-to-vessel collision detection. And maybe some built-in support for animations (ragdoll...)
