Project Blender 2.63 + to Orbiter import/export addon

So, the plugin can import models into Blender 2.8 EEVEE now. Tested with standard DG, Atlantis and ProjectAlphaISS meshes. Renders are quite nice. I suppose everybody use d3d9client now, so I should create a standard node setup for its PBR based material. It will be used by an addon developer...

Project Blender 2.63 + to Orbiter import/export addon

WIP Unfortunately, I haven't enough free time to update the module for 2.8. But the work is slooowly getting done. Now I can import mesh geometry and UV data into Blender 2.8. However, the old Blender renderer has gone in 2.8, so I have to learn how to work with new EEVEE node-based materials...

Project Blender 2.63 + to Orbiter import/export addon

It looks like Python API has changed in Blender 2.8. Also the Blender render is replaced with Eevee, the script should export Eevee materials into a .msh file. BTW, I didn't launch Orbiter for some years. Are there any improvements in Orbiter rendering engine that require some additional...

Project Blender 2.63 + to Orbiter import/export addon

Hi Riccardo, Orbiter .msh files are just simple models for a computer game, representing only 2d surfaces made of triangles, and Fluent .msh is usually a 3d finite element mesh for CFD calculations. That's a different and more complex data. My plugin can't do anything with Fluent .msh. BTW what...

Project Blender 2.63 + to Orbiter import/export addon

I think this is the only one Orbiter mesh plugin for modern Blender. I haven't updated the plugin for a long time, but it should work with the latest Blender versions. Blender API is stable, and Blender developers usually don't change it.

I managed to land MiG-21 perfectly at the end of the session. FPS was OK. It seems that two or more MiG-21s on the same airfield will cause performance drop, or MiG21 + Sabre etc. However, the developers promised that performance issues will be fixed soon.

Project Blender 2.63 + to Orbiter import/export addon

Hi Fred, I suppose that texture format is wrong. As I remember, Orbiter needs DXT1 or, maybe, DXT3. Check texture format and then check texture names at the end of the .msh file. Regards, Vlad.

Yes, they removed the old function that selects orphan vertices. Now I have to use BMesh API to select orphan vertices. This bug is fixed. Also fixed crash when Apply Modifiers is enabled in export.

That would be nice :) And here is my first flight simulator video: P51D 2-Wheel landing with 10 m/s crosswind. Click 1080p to look at the gauges :) P-51d crosswind wheel landing Edit: some good stuff An interesting article about taildragger wheel landing Nice video about crosswind landing...

Your engine mode is bad. It causes detonation, which will destroy your engine even when temperature is OK. As a result, we can see engine failure in this video. When you do a three-point landing, your touchdown speed must be as low as possible, approx 80..90 mph. You should touchdown by...

If you won't loose speed, your engine will be able to run even at 60/3000 for some time. Engine can run at 47/2700 for unlimited time. Also, high manifold pressure combined with low RPM will damage the engine rather quickly. Here is a good P51C flight video, where you can see engine modes...

I think you should start with A-10C. It's more interesting than A-10A and not that difficult, you will learn it very quickly. However, HOTAS is highly recommended. Ka-50 is the easiest helicopter to fly in DCS. Mi-8 is slightly more difficult to fly than Ka-50, and it hasn't got guided weapons...

There are another hi-end pedals: VKB http://www.vkb-pro.ru/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=1203 Unfortunately, the description is only in Russian, but there are the photos there. I own the previous version, VKB MK 18-3, they are very reliable and precise. I also ordered this joystick, it has...

Yes, IRL you can enable yaw channel according to the manual, because your feet are on pedals and the channel is disabled during takeoff/landing. In computer simulation, there are no pedals with buttons on them, and most of the simmers use twist, so there is no way to model auto-disable/enable...

There is a key for it, check controller setup. In reality, yaw channel is temporaryly disabled if you place your feet on the pedals, and is enabled again when you get your feet out of the pedals. Pilots use yaw channel only when they fly the same heading for a long time. It is always disabled...

You can start up Mi8's engines even faster: When RPM reaches 40, you can stop the starter, select the second engine and start again. ---------- Post added at 04:56 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:49 PM ---------- It sounds like you destroyed the tail rotor during some rough maneuver.

You don't need to retake Su-25t countermeasure training. Su-25t can not detect IR missile launch, it has got only a simple SPO-15 radar warning system. But A-10C can.

An old campaign may be too difficult for the modern version of Su-25t model (or any other plane). In DCS World and other ED sims, weapon effectiveness may vary from version to version. Some examples: 1. The first version of Su-25T (it was a separate game) had a simplified Shkval, which was much...

Oh, there are a lot of DCS pilots here! Although I don't play Orbiter for some years, I play DCS regularly. My fleet is: DCS Ka-50, DCS A-10C, DCS P-51D, DCS UH-1 and DCS Mi-8. Now I fly the P-51 and the classical helicopters. Flight modeling is outstanding, very interesting!
