The planets of the inner rim, classification table:

(if the link is not opening by clicking on it - copy-paste it to the url box)
(color of the cell is to be considered as an approximation of surface color).

--- 5631 b subterran ---

Hot, tidally locked to the star.
Orbital resonance with 5631 c is 1:2

--- 5631 c terran ---

Warm, tectonically active.
Orbital resonance with 5631 b is 2:1

--- 5631 d terran ---

Venus-like.

Its moon 5631 d 1.

--- 5631 e Jovian ---

Allocated in the habitable zone, has moons.
Atmosphere is simulated for thousand kilometers deep into, till the point of the liquid Hydrogen level.
Atmosphere - http://s1239.photobucket.com/user/roalnyr/media/probe.gif.html

--- 5631 e 1 ---

--- 5631 f superterran/sub-neptunian ---

Semi-gas planet (hypothetical) 5 times as Earth in mass, relatively thick atmosphere which lasts for about 3000 km, so you`d have to "dive" for quite a while to reach the rocky core. Density at zero level is about 1/4th of liquid hydrogen, pressure is about 750 atm.

A photo sequence taken by a probe from 5631 e orbit, 5631 e 1 could be seen passing by on the background.

I like the sub-terrestrial planet, custom textures make a world of difference in an addon like this

If youre looking for suggestions, I would love to see some asteroids. Very few custom solar systems include any asteroid belts, trojans, greeks, etc., which seems silly to me. Even if its just a Ceres-sized minor planet with a fuzzy rock texture rotated 90 degrees, its really nice to have destinations like that in sim.

Keep up the good work!

Edit: One other quick thing, you might find reading about the geology of Mercury interesting as a basis for details on the sub-terrestrial. Some "Weird terrain" features might be interesting to view from orbit.

Also, Orulex heightmaps are really nice IMO. If you copy-paste one of the default planetary terrain configs from the base Orulex package, and change a few parameters, it should work quite well. If you want to know more about the subject, check this post here:

Yes yes, I am planing to add small celestial objects as well. It is just taking me too long to polish what I've already done.
As for the 5631 b, which is sub-terran, I wanted to make a giant canyon, caused by tidal forces, which slided the lithosphere parts one against another, but it turned out a bit too big.

these cracks are what I was talking about, just turned a bit over-sized.
As for ORULEX, well my hardware won`t allow me to play using it (shame), but sure, I might do the config files, actually the idea is great. Also, isn`t it completely useless without mesh-to-land plugin? (which fails for me in O 2010).

I think I might make lots of use with this addon, can't wait for the release.

Probe entered the atmosphere, crossed the cloud layer and provided data until it had reached 330 km altitude above the point of condensing of the hydrogen.

Nope, Orulex works fine on its own, although you need a collision plugin to land on the terrain. I highly reccomend this one:

[ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=4433"]http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=4433[/ame]

You might be able to squeak in Orulex by changing some of the settings (polycount among others), but it can be a fps hungry beast.

Nice textures? How are you smoothing out the poles?

I am using GIMP>Distort>Polar coordinates.
Drawing the middle latitudes first, then warp the texture around one pole (Plugin options: "to polar" ticked) (it would look like you are looking from the pole) and draw it, then unwarp (Same plugin, option "to polar" unticked) and repeat the same for anther pole.

Semi-gas planet updated. You can see its core under the thick Hydrogen atmosphere.

---------- Post added at 05:05 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:00 AM ----------

Considering many different information regarding the nomenclature and classification, the system itself and planets are going to be re-named and their classes are going to be corrected.

To be honest - there are quite a lot of different sources and tables of classification which make me pretty confused. I will try to systematize my internet "research" to make it simple for further use. But if there IS any complete tables or instructions regarding this topic - please point me at it.

(color of the cell is to be considered as an approximation of surface color).
Here goes my classification table composed from the source links in the first post (updated).
Also, re-named planets and star to meet the IAU nomenclature(?), though planets are named from b to f (later - will be more) not in the way they were discovered, but according to their orbit positions.

Classified the star 5631 a as F3IV: 1.35 solar masses and 1.13 solar radius.

I have discovered the way how bump maps could be used for planetary textures, and also after many attempts, I have somehow "polished" my skill, this might end up in complete texture re-drawing.

So far I've came up to this:

It is fully generated and painted from zero with no external texture use.
It is just an example.

Stuck at asteroid models.
While model itself seems to be properly mapped and texture is compressed under DXT1 it won`t appear in the game. Either I missed something Blender, while were applying it, or GIMP messed the .dds, or it is just lvl8 texture misbehaves (I took one of my planetary textures for a test).

Note: seems like asteroids support lvl7 textures.

5631 c updated for poor texture to less poor one.

Hmmm... How did you get the uneven terrain? Beta?

No, just a mesh.
Beta didn't work well for me anyhow.

I am finishing the development of 5631 by now. I could have done it better but I would rather put my effort in another project, which would be something like a system of minor stellar objects with all the L4 and L5, orbital resonances, custom asteroid meshes, and so on.
