Got a question.

When releasing an Add-on that uses or you recommend others addons should you:

1. reference the link to the add-on in the manual and/or front page of your add-on.

or

2. Include the add-on in your installation

I think #1 is correct but just asking

Absolutely not #2 unless you have the permission of the author or he has released his add-on under a copyleft license, that allows exactly that. But even then, it is pretty bad taste, you only risk version conflicts.

#1 is much better.

Would we have a reliable package manager for orbiter, this could even be done automatically when you install an add-on package, by the package manager downloading and installing missing add-ons itself. (This works in many examples today, see Linux RPM)

But it is not that much manual labour.

Which you can see even today with UCGO and SC3.

If you install an older addon you might end up overwriting the stage.dll that is required by orbiter 2010 to make the stages visible.

" It's got to be a one there buddy...."

(Voiced in some strange accent which can be changed at a later date)

This forum needs a "no thanks" button...

When I was doing addons I provided links. I did include computerex's Hover MFD because he made it after I requested it specifically for one of my addons and even then I got his permission.
