Just took this scenario for a spin, and here is a little preview of the lunar flyby:

For the first time humans will see, in-situ, Mare Moscoviense in all its glory... and that will probably be it for lunar features. :cautious:
Thanks for the scenario @Ajaja !
For some reason I thought Moscoviense was the the one on the side, but that one is Orientale... :cautious:

Meanwhile the (now famous) toilet is again (temporarily) out of action, as the waste water tank is full.

On a positive note, Jim Lovell left a recorded message:

shouldn't Orientale be on east
I've always asked myself that (but being too lazy to study it)
:D

(edit: lapsus) :D they're already flying to the East West of the near side, hence Oriental is at Nadir now for them.

Data just passed up to the crew:
- Moon Closest Approach
MET 05:00:25:34
4067 mi = 6545.202 km

- Earth Maximum Altitude
MET 05:00:27:39
252756 mi = 406771.4 km

Stay tuned because the visual will change fast in the next 2 hours.

Just over 10 minutes for LOS.
Maybe we'll be coming into view of the onboard camera...

(Orbiter view)

We should see the Earth start to be hidden before LOS, as it is the Canberra DSN receiving data, and Australia is on the lit part of Earth.

Turning the spacecraft to top up the batteries for the pass thru the shadow of the Moon.
