Event in Nicaragua, was it a meteorite or something else?

The lack of fireball reports from the surrounding populated area seems to suggest some other causes.
If it was not a meteorite, then what can cause such a big crater?

well the government scientists claimed it was a meteor... maybe it was just explosives!

It could also be UXO ... but the crater doesn't look so.

Hi all!

[offtopic]

I just started exploring orbiter a few days ago (and im still stunned by the awesome graphics for a free simulator), just decided to register register in the forums and for my suprise there is a thread about the little country im living in!

[/offtopic] ;)

About the event in Nicaragua, i heard it when it happened (i live around 1km away from the crater) and it was like a thunder but like one second in duration.

Absolutely nobody saw anything in the sky (despite it happened in a city with 2.000.000 hab at 11.00 pm) and the crater appeared casually in some army abandoned fields.

Sadly my vote here goes to military playing games.

Report in spaceweather.com casts doubt that it was meteoric in origin.

Wouldn't a large meteorite have caused at least some heat damage to the nearby trees? It just looks like a hole somebody dug with explosives...
