Hi all!

I wanted to try something different today, so I launched Orbiter, opened Scenario Editor and put a Delta-Glider IV on Cape Run.33 with a MK satellite. My objective was: deploy the satellite on LEO, power it up and return to Cape.

First I launched PRO904SPEC40 AP (lame, yes, but I wasn't in the mood for manual). It left me on a 240Km (or something like that) altitude orbit.

So I aligned my DG with the artificial horizon, opened the cargo bay, nose cone and outer door (it took me some time to see that I needed to empty the airlock ":censored:, why can't I open this ?!"). Undocked the satellite and launched my only UMmu passenger. I need to practice EVA more, since I had to go THROUGH my ship AND the satellite to grapple it. Power up wasn't a problem, but my UMmu missed the nose cone several times trying to get aboard .

Now, reentry was a pain .My ship got burned many times (no, I refuse to use AP!!!), the nose kept getting down :(. Luckly someone posted on this forum saying to use control surfaces, and I was finally able to reenter (holy :censored:, I had to keep an eye on three things at the same time: vertical speed, that I tryied to keep it at -75m/s, pinch and temperature. Also, my passenger passed out twice because of excess Gs). The DG was steady at 40Km altitude and I was happy .

Now, what could I do next? Landing, of course. My ship had like 15% of main fuel and 90% of RCS but Cape was almost 3.500Km south! I fired my main engines at 30% and keeping my altitude at 40Km (for speed). Took some time, but I finally reached it with almost no main fuel (didn't do any transfer, so I still had my RCS almost full), but my DG was too high and fast, and I overshoot Cape .

The descending was almost like a reentry because I wanted to get down fast (DG got burned two times), my passenger passed out three times and I received two "High G" warnings. I was at the aproximation phase, at least. Vertical speed ok, horizontal speed ok, runway aligned, gear down, fail, where's it?! While I was trying to figure why the hell my gears weren't moving, the ship crashed. Later I found out that hydraulics was disabled (I think it was the AP, I'll never use it again!). I tryied again and landed safely on the runway :).

I love happy endings :beach:.

For my next mission: the MK's antenna broke, so it's basically a dead piece of metal. Retrieve it for repairs!

Well done, you get your (imaginary) Orbinaut wings in an (imaginary) ceremony.
One thing puzzles me - you used an autopilot to ascend but you refuse to use an autopilot to descend. Isn't that a bit contradictory?

Yes, I was feeling too lazy for manual ascent

And thanks for the (imaginary) prize, now you shall hear my discourse (imaginary, lucky you :P)

another dg4 gear problem

ok. this is my first post here, i'm just a beginner. ;-) ---quote--- The descending was almost like a reentry because I wanted to get down fast (DG got burned two times), my passenger passed out three times and I received two "High G" warnings. I tryied again and landed safely on the runway --- my problem has something to do with the gear - hydraulics are ON, so i would expect that the gear is down when i push the g-button, and it works. there's a voice telling me "gear down". ok so far. but as soon as i do this, my ship (dg4) goes down like kamikaze and crashes, there's nothing i can do about it. i get these g-excess warnings too and another one, something like "the gear is open". this happens at any altitude and i'm having my dg4 on a "safe" course. tried to push the hydraulics off after putting down the gear, but to no effect. anybody out there to explain this strange behavior to me and whatelse i can do? thx&greets, chris

Paragraphs
And make ur own thread please. Its not nice to hijack other peoples

The nosedive is normal. When you lower the gear it adds a lot of drag to the bottom of the ship, resulting a pitch-down. You can compensate using the elevator trim (insert and delete keys). Also, you shouldn't lower the gear at speeds over 200m/s.

thanks

i didn't think the drag is that important...
greetings from germany, chris.
