This is fantastic! Having a space station with a detailed interior has been an Orbiter dream of mine! I'm not sure my PC will be able to handle it though. :(

So, you say you will be able to travel around inside the station. Do you mean you will actually be able to " fly " a UMMU around inside, or just move to different camera positions like in a virtual cockpit?

Yes submariner.. this is our goal.. your astronaut will be able to go from one module to another, open hatches, moving antennas, using the space station telescope, going outside..
And that's not all: the station will be fully assembled with missions and docking maneuvres.. it a BIG challenge:cool:

Phenomenal project! Can't wait. :cool:

You say that it's going to be assembled in orbit from individual modules (which is awesome), will you be able to make the spinnind section work that way, or will you have to assemble it static, stop the simulation, do a quick swap in the scenario file, then go back in and find it spinning (which works too)?

Also, will the individual modules be able to be used with other pieces or in another order? Like if I wanted to use the spinning section on a station of my own design, could that work? (unless I've missed it, this is one thing missing from all station module packages on O-H, they seem all designed for building ISS style stations with no spinning areas)

MMhh.. i'm sorry my english is not so good.. what do you mean when you say "spinned section"? Can you tell me in other words?
However (if i understand your question) the station will be assembled one module to another, launch to launch. The typical mission is:
1) Launch of the module to the right orbit plane, (4 launches in a year starting from 15 January 2030 for a total of 17 launches)
2) Low cost rendez-vous procedure (developed by our team)
3) docking by using a special Space Tug called "Ercole" (you can see it in a picture some posts above)

The station (SSI GAIA) will support astronaut life after the 5th launch. The launchers will be the "Jarvis" series avaiable on Orbit Hangar. The launch base is Aurora Launch Platform.

You can use our modules with wathever you want.. they have docking ports!:thumbup:

Thanks. :)

What I meant by the spinning section was, the part that rotates to create artificial gravity, like a wheel with the person on the inside. (sometimes on stuff like the Deepstar, it's just 2 modules on the end of a long shaft that spins. Babylon 5 is another example, that entire station spun, and all Earth Force ships all used spinning sections (I suppose rotating would be a better choice of words than spinning))

Amazing! I've never seen such a good tug! And the interior! There are many modules that have a simple interior, but this is the first one that I see that has windows .

This is a very impressive project, congrats to the Italia team. It looks well thought out and designed. From what I can see it looks quite efficiently modelled too. What's the estimate on total poly count?

And lol @ the cup and saucer in the control room! How very proper!

this is the first beta test of the SSI2 and SSI2 missions. Instructions and flight plans are in italian There is also a very low energy rendez-vous procedure manual, which can be useful for all spacecraft!

Mandatory add ons are:

[ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=4233"]Aurora Launch Plat. V3.0[/ame]

[ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=4527"]Jarvis Heavy Launch Vehicle 1.5 - Full Package[/ame]

Multistage2 and spacecraft3 by vinka.

NOTE:
for this mission you'll have to deactivate the "nonspherical gravity source" parameter in the orbiter launchpad

:woohoo:
You guys are something else, fantastic work.

edit...
Looks fantastic, but I was wondering if I was supposed to separate the first module from the Jarvis upper stage once I'd reached a table orbit? I did and the mesh for the station module disappeared. I ran the second mission (SSi 2) and it was still attached, so I figure I'd messed up... but I had to run the mission from the start, trying to run "SSi 2 CMG activated" resulted in a crash to desktop.

The module interiors are a most excellent touch, they look great!

The first module must be attached to the last stage.. the separation will take place in the second mission, during the final docking maneuvre.
If you have a CTD, can you post here your Orbiter.log file, so we try to find out where is the problem?
Thanks!

Here you go... This is from SSi 2 final MSI approach. The CMG activated log looks much the same. I did take her from launch to rendevous, but I'm not yet attempted to dock. I love the looks of these modules!

edit... After looking at this I see I'm missing some textures. Are they perhaps from an earlier version of the Jarvis and Aurora?

I still have my '06 install, but I'm mainly using Orbiter 2010 right now. I'll try the patch when I get home. Thanks!
