aw, come on. This is silly silly poll, with mandatory silly comments. Why are you taking it so seriously?

Imagine, this would be a Johnny Depp Fan forum. And you would be one of the few males. And you would read this kind of "humor" by women. Would you like it? I doubt it.

(PS: I was in an arts course, and I know the tuning there. You can attempt being sensible and smart. But the arts girls date the guys from the sport courses. Luckily, this means that the girls, who are not all nuts, are disappointed by the sport guys not being interested. ;) )

2 steph: No we don't need extra girls, we need extra male-voters, 143 of them! All to prove my 0.5% prediction.
2 Urwumpe: I see your point, but that Jonny Depp example.. (that's movie-actor, right?) If I'll visit his fan forum this could only mean that I'm in a provocational mood. On the other hand If I was a part of Jdepp fan forum community.... nah, my imagination is too limited for that.

I say we welcome the Sally Ride of this forum:welcome:

According to Mike Mullane, Sally was rather difficult to get along with. I suggest inviting, say, Eileen Collins. Perhaps she could teach you a thing or two about commanding a shuttle.

I know lots of female engineers, and very few of them even care about space stuff unless it's career-related, even fewer care about flight sims. And these are geeky women! The bulk of the population is even less interested.

Bullethead has it right: before we go to Mars, we better invent a holodeck.

From my experience, the kind of girls smart enough to play Orbiter are also smart enough to not participate in stupid polls. So chances are you're counting a ratio of guys who think their vote here is important versus guys who think voting "female" is fun.

I remember Lizardette and Retrograde. Retrograde is not there since M6 is down.

An excellent female-repellent, It could be worse only if orbiter was about football among other things. :)

Nah, I agree with you Xantcha. And then add the occasional use of beer-related smileys... a winning combination (if you're gay... not saying anyone is)!

If you're a young man and surprised by the fact that there are almost no women on the forum, then there are going to be a lot of other painful surprises in store for you.

Women seem to have this amazing ability to save themselves from being in the sad club, which let's face it, is what we are....

It is interesting though- does anybody know why there seem to be far fewer women than men in physicsy subjects?

It's not just in orbiter- in my year at school, there are a few of us who are slightly over the top about engineering (ie those who want to build that damned microscope). And all of us are guys.

I don't think it can be any form of sexism causing that, seeing as we're still at school, and haven't entered work environments.

You do hear how men are better with spatial perception, women are better at communication etc- I don't believe that to any major extent, but I do think there is a difference at some point between the genders.

Well said. Thanks. :)

Plus you would have to put up with the lovely comments of the likes of:

n72.75: "I mean think about it,,,,,,,chicks in orbit.:speakcool:"
Star_explorer: "ok dude if that ever happen please dont keep it to yourself. it be great to have a docking with a girl, if you know what im sayin"

Those sort of comments make me disappointed in this forum.... I expected better.

I agree with the disappointment, however instead of being disappointed in the forum, why not be disappointed with the user who posted it?

A reminder: Each users post is their own opinion and not the opinion of Orbiter-Forum or it's staff. Although their comments don't really break any rules, I'd like to ask both users (n72.75 & Star explorer) to give your posts more thought in the future before posting childish comments.

Of course, a forum is also made of people. ;)

As long as it is just a disturbing minority, it is no problem. But I know regular chat sites, where a woman can't go online without being flooded with offers for the next night. Which is enough for keeping the woman ratio below 30% anyway.

To clarify, I don't mean that I was disappointed in orbiter-forum.com, rather, a very small part of the orbiter-forum community. Thanks for providing this excellent resource Tex, and thanks to everyone for making it the helpful and informative site it is.

:rofl:come on..you need comments like that once in a while

After re-reading this post I must clarify that I agree with you Tex. I'm not disappointed in the forum at all... This is a great place for us orbinuts to get together and bang heads. Thanks for providing the forum! :)
