Question Have you ever been on an airplane?

I've flown about a dozen times (from the rear seat) in a L-19 "birddog". And soloed 6 times in a schweizer 2-33 glider (does that count) ?

Oh, and a L-13 blanik. That was amazing.

It counts more than anything. That's REAL flying! (clarify what I mean here... talking about the gliding; best sort of flying there is).

I've been on some comercial 727,737 flights. Once I flew on an Airbus (I don't remember what it was). My dad used to fly and I've been on quite a few private planes, Cessna 152s and 172s, Piper Cherokees and Tomahawks, a Mooney and a Cirrus. That Cirrus was something else, it'd pull 300mph like a 152 would 60, and still had fixed gear.

Wow! That's pretty dang epic!
And I just looked up pics of the cockpit too... VERY nice! :)

I looked around the internet, and found a 2009 Cessna 172 Skyhawk going for (get this) $297000 USD. If that's not expensive I don't know what is.

I noticed the prices on Wikipedia the other day:

Unit cost
172 USD$8,700 (1956)[2]
172R USD$234,500 (2008)[3]
172S USD$283,500 (2008)[4]

I don't remember what commercial planes I've been on, but non-commercially I've been on a C-9B and a 727 (Vomit Comet).
In a couple of weeks I'll be going on a 737 to Las Vegas.

Many times on Il-86, Tu-154, various Boeings and Airbusses, maybe some others as i didn't often checked the name of the plane. Never been on small/private stuff. Lucky people you are in USA, private planes being legal there.

Tu-134M 'Crusty', Tu-154M (&B) 'Careless', Yak-40 'Codling', Yak-42 'Clobber', Il-86, Boeing 737-200, Boeing-737-300, A310, A320, A319. As you can guess, most of time lately I fly Boeings and Airbuses.

Mine most loved one was Il-86.

Couldnt you buy a new cheaper?

Unless some property of a object makes its value worth more the older it gets, new is almost always not cheaper.

Try anything bigger...

Look at this;

http://www.airplanetradeonline.com/apdetail13300.htm
only $19.9K :) never mind it was built back in 1968...

A more realistic year
http://www.airplanetradeonline.com/apdetail13291.htm
$193K for 2002

If I ever wanted a plane, this would be (like) it
http://www.airplanetradeonline.com/apdetail12394.htm
$995K 1973

Or how about
http://www.airplanetradeonline.com/apdetail13162.htm
for $17,250,000

Flying is expensive

Cheapest thing you can do to come to flying, is buy a build a simpit for FSX, with the necessary equipment to run full everything at 60FPS.

lots of RJ-85 flights, one ATR-72, one B-737 and several A-320's. I've yet to fly long haul but that's coming in a few years.

I've seen two Concorde from inside, the ones displayed at Air and Space Museum, in Paris, France. Never flown in one, though. Only in commercial Aribuses and Boeings. They also have in Paris an Ariane V and IV displayed vertically and I've seen the Saturn V from JSC, Houston. That one was the most impressive sight. Ever.

Hello friends; in fact, I have flown in some aircrafts. For example, a Boeing 717 and 747; also in Mcdonnell Douglas MD80 (really this aircraft flew like a eagle ) and also in a Airbus A321 ( this aircraft I didn´t like very much ). I have worked in airport of Madrid in Spain too and I could see many aircrafts and I have been inside the cockpits. I could see too even the Air Force One when Bush visited Spain but I couldn´t to be inside, jejeje; there were a lot of people with many guns and weapon, jejeje. I coud see too an Antonov A124 ( it had got a twenty wheels in the main landing gear). It is really a wonderful thing. Bye friends.

Flying is easy, take-off and landing, that's the real excitement.:)
