I think it would be interesting to make carrier landings from space.

Once I've figured out the API better, I was going to work on a system like this for Orbiter (my big huge to-do list :P). Though I don't know how realistic it would be, it would be fun to call the ball and come screeching to a stop after blazing down through the atmosphere!

I've thought about trying to do the same thing. The snag I always hit is this:

It would be coolest to have the carrier implemented as a vessel - that way it could have it's own control tower (VC / interior view) and be able to move around. BUT as far as I know there's no way to land a vessel on top of another vessel.

So you could implement it as a static mesh in a surface base. That would work fine, it just would always be in the same place.

I agree - DEFINITELY not very realistic, but would be pretty cool to come in off a hot re-entry and have a place to land in the middle of the Pacific or something :-)

Design-wise, I'm sort of intruiged by this futuristic split-deck concept shown here:

Old idea. Already long done. They'll be released with some of the other Mercury/Gemini upgrades in the coming months.

And for NASSP/AMSO...

What about the venus ballon station, I belive Artlav did it, it functioneed like an aircraft carrier it slowed you down when you landed on it.

I think Jon Marcures Battlestar .dll is exactly what you want for a project like this.
They want to actually land on the carrier, not just get close enough and have it say "Okay, you landed."
