OHM Multistage2015 - for Orbiter 2010P1

I must admit I'm at a loss for figuring out how the autopilot/guidance works. I've managed to "convert" my rocket to multistage 2015, and the MFD recognizes it as such. But programming the autopilot is something I haven't figured out.

If I use my "old" guidance file, or just go without one. The rocket explodes shortly after liftoff.

The GNC [add] button generally results in a ctd if I try to add any commands.

I figure I'm missing something obvious. :shrug:
 
The explosion happens because if you fly with the complex flight mode on it will simulate aerodynamic forces on the rocket, you must follow carefully the gravity turn while still low on altitude (that's why it's called "complex").

About the CTD this is totally new, never happened to me once and never got report on it.

Can you please post ini file, scenario file and log file?

To try just a snap of the new guidance simply turn off complex flight, and run a guidance file that simply has

ok, I found two things:

- a mistake in the ini file relevat to a mandatory parameter (I'll update the module so it won't be too rigid and it will assume more default values) : EngDiameter should be Eng_diameter

- an issue related to my code: looks like it doesn't like all 4 engines of the boosters defined. if you comment out the 4th engines of both boosters it will work. I'll find out why.

this have nothing to do with guidance, it's related to the ini file. comment the 4th engine and you will fly to orbit, I just did it

Is this what the particle stream is supposed to look like at very low altitude?



That is what I am getting. My "GROWFACTOR_RATE" is very modest, and at very low altitude I would expect "GROWTHRATE" to be very near the starting value of -5. However, as you can see in the screen capture, the growthrate is something very large and positive.

If I comment out or set to 0 "GROWFACTOR_RATE," then I do get what I would expect:



As a hint, I have found that the "SRCRATE" value greatly affects the growthrate appearance of the particles if "GROWFACTOR_RATE" is nonzero. But based on what you have said, I did not think "SRCRATE" and "GROWFACTOR_RATE" or "GROWTHRATE" should be related to each other. :shrug:
 
well my friend... you just showed what a good beta testing means: do a bit of trial and error and report precisely what you did and what are your feelings.

you are right: I mistakenly used as baserate for growing the srcrate instead of the growthrate :facepalm:

All right so the original plan was to fix all the bugs while preparing the orbiter beta release, so I would have published the release for the beta and updated this with everything fixed, but this point deserves an immediate update, so here is the recompiled module corrected of some stuff already (bug for the 4th boosters' engine is fixed, update payload rotation in developer mode is now possible etc)

and of course this is fixed, give it a try and let me know. And thanks again! :tiphat:

New DLL seems to very badly break the MultistageMFD. Guidance & telemetry files do not load, altitude steps default to 0,0,0, CTD if you hit VEH button.

Perhaps that was the version for Orbiter beta?

sorry, they are compiled together so the update of one module cannot go alone without breaking the other, I updated the download of the above post with both modules, please try it again
 
Hey fred18,I am kind of confused,with your newest versions of multistage 2015,when using your older version,your 4th released one,I am getting a higher apa,and a lower rinc at MECO with this Resolve scenario,but when using your newest version I am now getting a lower APA,and a much higher rinc at MECO,here is the scenario,config,and guidance file I am using,and also a pic of me after MECO with the older version of multistage 2015,and a pic with me using the newest version to show the differences,one thing I did notice with the newest version,is that it doesn't seem to hold the heading as well as the older one I was using.

The guidance program you are using is the old open loop system. Which means that anything happens during the ascent can affect it.

I'll check if everything is ok with the controls, but I strongly recommend for such a type of launch to use the new "orbit" program, that is closed loop and will bring you right there no matter what happens.

sure, you just simply need to use playsound calls as it was in the old system

(NOTE: the playsound calls cannot be added via MFD, they must be added via guidance file before loading the simulation as it was before. I might be change that for next release, depends on how much complicated this begins to be)

well heading should not be constant, neither with the old closed loop. When flying you make an orthodome route on earth, which means that course is changing continuosly. If you keep it constant you'll end up in a spiral across north or south pole and the crash there. Anyway to minimize small yaw drifts try to hit kill rot a couple of times during ascent (and remember to deactivate it after a few seconds) to stop the small yawing movement.

I'll see if there is a way to make it even more stable also with the old vinka guidance.

another way is to keep the hud on in surface mode and apply small yaws left or right to keep the hud lines horizontal.

remember to put time also for the orbit call!

OK,so I would just put the all the sound clips I have in the old guidance file in the same numbered order?,and it should work properly?
 
Hey Fred,I know you aren't working on features for multistage 2015,but is there a way to make the boosters,and or SRB's to still be emitting flame after sep?Thanks
