Hi all, new to the group and Orbiter in general. Jack's the name...
I've been passionate about aviation for a long time (private pilot, ASEL, ASES, IR) and have always held an "off to the side" interest in space travel but never seemed to find the time to dive deeply into it with other life in the way. I've also been playing around with general flight sim stuff I guess a few decades now, mostly x-plane, but I got my start back on MSFS in the mid 90s.
Anyway, I was recently looking at a potential pro-bono project for work (I run a software dev company) and it uncovered Orbital for me (along with a slew of other astronautics stuff). The past few weeks of initial poking around and general research has been a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to diving in on some hands-on stuff.
Aside from general knowledge about the orbiter sim (I seem to be focused on the 2016 non-forked version), my primary task at hand is to attempt a hardware interface between some custom controls (Arduino) and Orbiter. If someone could point me to the ideal subform where I might pick a bit at the hivemind, that'd be great. I'm not sure if that should fall under Hardware and Software Help (seems more general, less development-specific), Orbiter Development (more geared to the core software itself?), Addon Development (I'm not looking to create an add-on per-se, but happy to release any working code I might come up with to the community), or...?
Looking forward to being in an active forum community again, and hoping to get up to speed enough so I can contribute something also (a lot of experience in business application development and running enterprise systems at scale, platform engineering on AWS, etc., though it's not entirely transferrable here I think, but happy to chime in or help out where I can).
Thanks!
