I'm pretty tech-savvy, so I could do it, the only problem is I don't have a box I can run it on. I could run it on the tower I'm using to post this, but I can't keep this one going 24/7 as its in my bedroom ,and the fans required to keep it from overheating are rather loud. My dad might have a server box I can borrow, but the electricity cost is going to be prohibitive. If dad ever gets those solar panels he's been going on about for some time now electricity wouldn't be an issue, but I'm afraid I probably will not me able to put up a server.

omp frustration

Hi there. I just installed the OMP client and everything and i tried installing microsoft .NET framework 2.0 but it says that it doesnt work on windows 64-bit (i have windows 7). I did everthing else including the port forwarding and stuff but wen i try to activate the module on orbiter nothing happens, it just closes the orbiter window. Is there another equivalent of .NET framework 2.0 that works on 64-bit? Or is there another solution to this problem? I would really appreciate it if someone could help. (I have Orbiter 2010 btw).

Interesting. I thought Win7 comes with 2.0 pre-installed.

Check your drive for a folder named Microsoft.NET, containing a subdir Frameworks, containing a dir named along the lines of "v2.0.bla.blu". If you've got that, you have the .NET framework already installed.

You can provide further information about the crash by means of posting the content of your Orbiter.log file right after the crash (from Orbiter's root directory) and the OMP logs (*.log and *.lgg files in the /modules/plugin/ dir).

Two Orbiter-Sessions in one ship and OMP

Hi, is it possible to connect 2 orbiter sessions on two different PCs in a way that both sessions see the same instruments and one can interact as maybe pilot, the other as a coordinator? I like to set up something like a CREW^^

I am running "face-orl-online-cf2ca6ba3d83" on a third machine. It works stable and installation was very easy!

If it's possible to 'sit' with two sessions in ONE vessel - how can I do it? Which commands could I use?

Would be nice to here from you - maybe someone knows another method.

Thanks in advance

Short answer No. When you get synced (wrp 0.1 or 2.0 top right corner of orbiter screen is an indication of NOT being in sync) with everybody else you can hit the F3 key you should see everybody in the game, click on their name and you will see their cockpit but can not interact with it. But you can ride along in invisible mode.(they cant see you interacting, and you will not see them interacting but you can change MFD's) In XR series vessels it may show alarms or crew dead messages. This is a false alarm in most cases unless of course the vessel is actually stressed or crashed

I think there was a hidden command to activate the function your after. weather it is in the version you've got I can't remember, but I can't remember the command anyway, so the point is moot. It also caused mass CTDs.

That would be "%event". It activates the event forwarding, causing VC mouse movements/presses as well as keypresses to be forwarded to all other clients and replicated there.

The later (replication) is what causes CTDs in Orbiter if the wrong VC is currently showing (what probably is the case if you are sitting in a different vessel class then you received an event notification for). As long as everyone is using the same vessel class, it works. But woe betide the one who joins with a different class and does gears up..

In addition, the event system can't fully replicate the situation as seen from the vessel "hoster". E.g. MFD input is not forwarded and instead pops up the input box out of nowhere for the vessel "viewer". Rather disturbing...

I don't know if this problem was posted somewhere in the thread. If so, apologies. If not, here's the problem:

When I click on the "OMPClient" module:

ompclient.png

The option "disappears" and I get a CTD:

ompclient2.png

Help, please. Thanks.

What OMP version do you use?

Looks like you're missing .NET 2.0 framework or a component (due to failed installation).

20081208 I think. I just checked the .zip name.

Sounds like the 2006 version. No wonder it is not working. Go to the OMP site and download it there.

Hi Face! Glad to see you're still active and the project is still under development. So, I have a little question about configuring OMP. Is there a way to specify the scenario? As i can see yet, it is possible to specify ships that people will be allowed to use, but what about scenarios? I also seen that you included some scenarios in OMP distribution, so I'll be happy to know how to use them.
Thanks

I'm a new member to this forum. I have been keeping track of Orbiter off and on for the past several years. I am a self taught C++ Network and Graphics programmer. I have been programming for the past 7 years. I also know C# and other languages.

I am looking for a new project to sink my teeth into and would love to offer my services to this addon. If you could use my help please respond here or send me a PM! Thanks!

My real programming interest lies in creating MMOs. I have been working on a MMO called Rise of Heroes for 7 years that I just recently signed over rights for to the company that I helped create called MMO Interactive. As of the time that I left the company we were still unregistered however we were in the process of becoming a registered company when conflicts of Beliefs came up.

I am interested in working on a MMO that doesn't involve Magic so working on helping to add Multiplayer features to Orbiter would combine 3 of my interests (Sci-fi, Space Exploration, and programming).

Other information about me: My name is James. I am 26 years old and I am from Portland, Maine.

The scenario in the /scenarios/ folder is a generic one. It will be overwritten on every session startup by means of the "locations". If you join an OMP server, you will be presented with possible locations you can start from. These locations are really only scenario file fragments that the server sends to the client on startup.

So to give a short answer: yes, it is possible to specify the scenario, but only on the server side.

:welcome: to the forums, James.

You may have noticed that I merged your thread with this one, as I'd like to keep this subforum clean. I think your post fits well in here.

As for contribution: check the project's repos, both the OMP and the ORL online one. The later is having more activity lately, as it is used by some people, while the former is the next step development and not really functional now. Since you are a pro, I guess I don't have to tell you about DVCS and Mercurial, so you should find your way to clone and pull-requests just fine...

regards,
Face

In the "Service port" field you should enter the port number that you use in the network tab of the OMP client (custom setting). In deltawing777's distribution it is 2502 by default IIRC.

In the "IP address" field your PC's LAN-IP should be entered. This is the local IP and normally starts with something like 192.168.0.xxx. Best is to check it via your OS's network status. The fastest (and "universal") way on Windows is to open a command-line window (cmd.exe) and enter "ipconfig<ENTER>".

UDP and status "Enabled" is already selected, and the bottom field is just for selecting pre-defined port-numbers.

After this you should be able to connect with custom method and the specified port. If not, I'd additionally check the firewall settings on both the router and the PC.

It would be a strange router, it it stops working after a port-forward, don't you think?

Well i used ipconfig command but i cant find my LAN-IP
picture.php

Could u help me face?
Also i think it could be a little difficult to read it(because i use brazillian windows vista)
there is a tip:Conexão Local meand local connection(LAN0(Optic Fiber) Conexão sem fio:(wireless connection)

Looks like 10.0.0.100 . A bit strange for a small local net, but 10.x.x.x is a private network range as well.

As you wish.

Just be informed that UPnP is no silver bullet. IMHO, it is even less secure and more error-prone than manual forwarding, especially if you have a static setup with fixed local IPs and port numbers.

Does OMP still work? i havent been on in a while, i loaded it up today and where it would usually show you what vessel and scenario to load, there was nothing there, just a blank gray box... im not sure if i connected or not... i tried my hardest to fix it but it wont.

Heres what it reads in the logging tab

TCP: Connected to server
TCP: Error receiving from omp.dyndns-server.com:1515..FFFFFFFF
TCP: Connection to omp.dyndns-server.com:1515 closed..

I havent changed this orbiter install since the last time i played OMP on it.. all my port forwardings remained the same.

Router reads...

Outbound sevices

Service Name - Any(ALL)
Action - ALLOW always
LAN Users - My ip address

Any help??
