Yes, and the drivers & chipsets are updated as well.

What does your Orbiter.cfg file say???
This is mine:
(if your EchoAllParams is FALSE, set it to TRUE and run Launchpad again, then recheck)

; === ORBITER Master Configuration File ===
EchoAllParams = TRUE
LPadRect = 675 198 1250 926

; === Subdirectory locations
ConfigDir = .\Config\
MeshDir = .\Meshes\
TextureDir = .\Textures\
HightexDir = .\Textures2\

ScenarioDir = .\Scenarios\

It was set to FALSE. Changed to true & rechecked all max resolution settings (all 14). Relaunched Orbiter. KSC still looks like this:

WhatIsIt3.jpg

Not quite my definition of "Hi-Res."

Rechecked the Orbiter cfg file. Now matches your example. Launched Orbiter again. Still no change.

All required files are clearly present in the specified folder. Directory structure appears to be correct (at least from what I can see). Orbiter runs fine in all other aspects. Don't know where else to look.

Just installed a Hi-res version of the LC39A ground. The PC clearly handles high resolution textures:

I haven't a clue what to try next.

I think that's what the default is supposed to look like? (minus the high-res pad)

Yes, I think we've established that pretty definitively by now. My question is, given that all parameters are set to display the hi-res textures/tiles, why don't they appear, and what specifically can I do to rectify that?

That's the maximum tile level that can be possibly displayed. Doesn't mean they're installed.

Because they do not exist. Hi-res surface tiles for KSC/CCAFS are not included with the standard package.

What exactly is missing?

I have downloaded & installed the Level 11 - 14 package. Based on an earlier post of what exactly was installed, and it being confirmed that they were installed correctly, I'm at a loss to understand why they're not displaying.

I understand that specifying level 14 resolution means nothing if the files to support that command aren't there, but as far as I've been able to establish, they are in fact there (based on the download & installation of the additional files).

That's why the question persists.

Did you read the thread from the start?

We are discussing the "apparent invisibilty" of the textures from "Earth091124_11_14.zip" file, which are installed, but don't show up.

Just tried a completely new/clean install (Orbiter v.100830 and Earth L11 L14 v.091124 ONLY). Nothing else installed.

Ran the dxdiag tool which confirmed what the Orbiter Launch Pad found on the check it does at initial start up - DirectX 9c installed.

Same issue. Hi-Res Earth/KSC still will not display.

Contrary to my low post count, I am NOT an Orbiter noob. I've been using Orbiter since 2005 (brother-in law is "Saturn V"), and I have done add-on development with him, so I do understand the directory structure and how to install/set up an Orbiter installation.

However, my experience to this point has been with older versions of the sim. That's why I believe something is escaping me with respect to the latest version. I just can't seem to figure out what that "something" is.

Ok, so you didn't read it.
Go up to post #17.
Ripley, KSC/CCAFS are separate from the L14 textures and the rest of the Earth planetary textures. KSC/CCAFS is defined as a base and uses so called "surface tiles" to define extra high resolution surface textures. This is the texture listing for the default KSC/CCAFS:

Code:

Still it sounds quite weird...

What OS do you run Orbiter in?
Where on your HD did you install Orbiter?
Was it the msi or the zip?

It isn't. There's no high resolution texture package for the KSC/CCAFS base surface tiles textures. The L11-14 texture package only adds those resolutions to select parts of Earth(L14 only covers Florida, while L11 covers the rest of the planet).

Ok.
Maybe we are generally referring to/implying "Hi-res surface tiles for KSC", while the real problem is normal "higher-res" textures (those included in Earth091124_11_14.zip) not displaying, which IS weird, since he installed them.

Dave,

If I'm understanding you correctly, this is Level 14 Florida?

WhatIsIt5.jpg

But since KSC/ Canaveral is defined as a base (I see the surface base tiles specified in the Earth/Base/Canaveral file), this is the best resolution obtainable at or near ground level?

WhatIsIt2.jpg

Ripley, I run XP Pro (Service Pack 3). Orbiter is installed on the "C" drive in Program Files.

Both are correct.

Both are correct.

Thank you.

I think I was just surprised that the resolution is so much lower than what I was used to seeing in '06 with Kukanotas' KSC tiles installed.

If this is the norm, then I guess I'm good to go.

I appreciate the assistance of everyone who contributed. Good support community here.
