Does anyone on OF make rockets in Phun?

Has anyone even heard of Phun? If the answer is no I wouldn't be suprised, it's fanbase is effectively dead since the closing of the forums.

Or if you make rockets in Algodoo, that sort of counts, they are basically the same thing AFAIK except that Phun is free, although Algodoo does have better physics.

I was aquanted with Phun for a short period of time. (It was my favorite thing to do on the computer before I found Orbiter.) I had mostly forgotten about it until I saw your post. I never created anything good, but had a blast testing machine guns and rockets other users created. (Kinda like my current use of Orbiter.) I didn't know they closed the forum! Blasphemy! That was a bastion of creativity, a pillar of light in a sea of mediocrity! (Other than O-F, of course) What caused them to close the forum?

However, I did test this one rocket for Phun a long time ago, I think it was a Titan II... I think. It had two boosters, a main engine, a nose cone and a satellite. Upon the push of a button, the boosters would separate and turn off. Push it again, the nosecone would split and the satellite would fly out, complete with own engine for final orbit insertion. I actually managed to get into orbit a few times, with no MFD or anything!

I think they had to close it because they were releasing Algodoo (strange reason) and I don't know why anyone would waste their money on Algodoo, it is exactly the same except for the GUI and a few little features that nobody cares about.

Unfortunately the latest (last) version of Phun doesn't have space. :(
But then again neither does Algodoo.

I hadn't heard of Phun before. I guess it's yet another one of those interesting and fun little free softwares sadly gone proprietary.

Oh, yes, i do.

Smaller stuff:

Larger stuff:

Some tools:

Apollo-style flight:

Leonov-style flight:

I think i putted the museum scene with all the rockets to Phun repository.

Actually no, Phun (free) is still available if you don't want to buy Algodoo ($$$) and as I said they are effectively the same thing.
Algodoo is a bit faster and is cooler in many ways, and the price is quite fair.

True, Phun lags with a large amount of water were as I had no problems with Algodoo and water, I'm actually thinking of buying it now.

Also I use a completely different rocket "engine" design to me, I've been using two overlapping rectangles at an angle (kind of hard to explain, I'll try get some pics up later.) filled with small circles.

I'm sure yours are more efficient though, so does it just work with the circles on motors "shooting" the circles out or is it a bit more complex?

The whole idea is clear in this one:
phun_orb.jpg

The big circles spin quickly, with fuel circles feeding between them.
The gear is the feeding mechanism, letting some fuel be accelerated at a time.
This is a controlled engine. Remove the gear and you'll get what i call an H class rocket - a burn-it-all-at-once booster. The 'Leonov' image shows an old hybrid of controllable rocket with full burn capability.

The steering is by a gyro or by a ruder. The one above is a latter model with gyro only, older and bigger ones got both, biggest and dumb ones - none or rudder only. Lander part in 'Apollo' image shows the combination clearly.

The museum image shows the evolution of the idea, from right to left in zig-zag - dumb booster with rudder, a semi-controllable rocket with half-circle feeder, the same rocket with gear feeder, various shape optimisations, multistage rocket capable of reaching the 'Moon' (another planet in the world it all was developing - gravity off, spheres with attraction as planets, distances about 20000 units apart, 1000 max in diameter), landers, RCS crafts, another failed experiment on propulsion (the tiny thing below the red ones, a mass driver of a sort) and the round interplanetary craft that tried to use it, then the space escape capsules, small and large, wider rocket with high ISP (triple SSTO, compared with catapult or booster launched barely-SSTO previous ones), and finally, a new shape for the actual craft and a docking mechanism that comes with it, the kind of craft you see in the image above.

So, what engines and designs do you use?

Thanks, the main design I use is two overlapping rectangles at 15 degree angles, with small circles inside where the overlapping occurs, the circles still collide with the rectangles and it basically takes the meaning of a "barely controlled explosion" more literally than ever.

I'm sorry if I'm not being clear enough, I'll try to get a picture when it is convenient.

Edit: Pic! :)

Edit2: Lasts about 5 seconds.

Edit3: Could you give some more specs on the wheels, gear and 'fuel' in your design? I can't seem to get it to work.

Here is the phunlet:
http://orbides.1gb.ru/orbf/shiplet.phz

The wide one have ISP of 14.4 sec and DV of 280.
Your engine seems to have ISP of 0.7 sec.

Controls: = to start the engine (on some), [ and ] spin the feeder, <- and -> spin the gyro, 1 ignites the booster in the middle. L and K jettison lander legs.

I'm still having trouble with them, I have the balls about the right size, I have the gear to keep a controlled flow, I have the motors spinning wildly to shoot the circles out, I change the weight of the rocket to help it fly, but I still can't get it to work your way. :(

Darren

Well, you can start with my model, and keep morphing thing after thing to yours until your one starts to work.

What is the problem, btw? Low thrust? Explosive fuel ejection? Fuel not reaching the gear in zero-g? thing spinning madly? Etc?

It shoots the 'fuel' out just fine but whether I have an entire tank going in a few seconds or keep a controlled 'burn' it just doesn't get enough thrust.

The wheels I'm using have Speed 1200 rpm and infinite strength.
