Hi,
I saw this via the Guardian website, just a small video, Professor Rees gives his view on Astronauts and space flight.
It got me thinking about Robert Zubrin, the enthusiast about wanting settlers to go to Mars and staying there, and I guess going beyond to somewhere else in the solar system.
The professor certainly doesn't think there will be a captain Archer anymore than a Commander aboard the International space station going to another world. Cyborg explorers? Borg drone more like.
He is correct that space flight for life is hazardous, but ideas of traveling like a generation ship or an O'Neil cylinder are unlikely. I guess the Moon will suffice never mind about settling on Mars with people.
Any thoughts on the Professor Rees is rather unexciting space future. Sure doesn't that that great.
