Another point is that we have 2 natural magnetic shields against radiations from outer space. The first is the heliosphere, generated by the Sun and extends far beyond the orbit of Neptune. The second one is Earth's magnetosphere, a complex system of magnetics loops (including the famous "Van Allen belts"), which protects us every second from solar radiations.

In order for it to kill us all on Dec 21st 2012, it will have needed to blow up several hundred years before that...

Who knows, maybe it's already gone nova and we just haven't seen it yet...

The supernova will happen when the XR series, and the DGIV series are in full swing and we wont die, but become mutants.
