Man Freedom of Speech doesn't work that way... You can't post a quite obviously political thing and write "don't comment unless apolitical". You have to accept criticism and opinions that might be different of yours. Believe me, I'm a philosophy teacher ! As the great Immanuel Kant wrote in 1790's there is some antagonism deep in the human race. It is what drives us. That's why capitalism, competition and liberalism are so successful (see Apollo 11 as a direct product of such competition). Humans are rigged that way, its something that is in our genes, Darwin was right about it. You have to accept this and live with it. Even the "peaceful" Gandhi, to quote one of your compatriots, said that “There is no shame in deterrence”. The Mahatma himself, a very intelligent man and a great philosopher, understood that humans are a warlike species and that our only choice is to deal with it. Again, this is the result of millenias of "eat or be eaten" evolution.

My advice as a philosophy teacher would be : study what Gandhi said and wrote, he was a great man, and the Hindu civilization is a great and very ancient one, those people were talking philosophy while the Greeks were still cavemen.

Still, lets focus on space, not sling around more mud than already happens in Ukraine.

I would draw the limit of censorship at the point that we should forget that Rogozin exists and does what Rogozin did all the time, but still allow discussing how to handle the changed situation in a fair manner. This world will NEVER be the same again. That's truly an tautology, but never that clear as today. The west can't go back to business under the same conditions as before. And what is happening inside Russia will also make a return to the status quo much harder now.

What will be left of the Russian spaceflight program in 2023? How many cancelled projects will be blamed on the Russian war, while in reality, they had already been terribly in distress before? Will Russia piggyback on the Chinese? Or will nationalist zeal and militarization dominate it (again)?

Honestly, the Russian space program... well it didn't really exist those last 20 years. They kept upgrading Soyuz to acceptable NASA standards, and Angara logged several flights. Not great not terrible. Best thing that can happen here is a whole revolution IMHO. Comonauts should have planted a russian flag on the Moon a long time ago.

Not great not terrible. Best thing that can happen here is a whole revolution IMHO. Comonauts should have planted a russian flag on the Moon a long time ago.

Thats a pretty weird interpretation. It existed more than in the 10 years before, it kept the ISS operating between Shuttle and Dragon. Of course, the Russian spaceflight sector was more busy with itself than with space. Again, for a country with the GDP of Italy, they managed to get a lot of stuff done, of course by using what was already there. The only great thing, that Russia has, is the USSR heritage hardware.

Even if it is still flying Soyuz, Russia managed to grow past the USSR heritage there a lot. The TMA and TMM updates achieved a lot and had been no small updates for Soyuz internally and far less small for the Russian industry - it was part of a huge leap. A few years before the TMA update, Russia flew the first satellite of it, that had electronics outside a pressurized container. Something that is standard for western spacecraft and saves a lot of weight.

Of course, much more of the available resources went into the military. But that makes the achievements of the Russian spaceflight industry not smaller, but greater.

Still, we should discuss the inner mechanics of the politics elsewhere. I don't want to censor Russian topics and Russian users here, so we need a solution that allows:

• Talking about Russian spaceflight
• Talking with Russians about spaceflight

I suggest only focusing on spaceflight itself and technical aspects. Crews, dates, planned activities, hardware being built or tested, etc.
Discussing other questions here won't solve them, and might get our Russian members in trouble, or force them to answer back in a certain way. It won't accomplish anything.
