You should add some surface tiles and it will look even better.

Is this surface tile coverage good?

When I get my SR-71 done I'll take off from edwards and head to this airport. Just watch for a black jet. :P

I am going to have the high-range edwards base.

So when are you going to have the blackbird done?

Adding hangars and a building... More hangars and buildings to come

And here is a plan for a new surface base... somewhere in Asia or Europe (blueprints not complete yet).... will start building after I release
SFO base v0.9 or official 1.0 release

Since the blackbird will be a .dll with lots of details it won't be until awhile.

Adding more taxiways including taxiways
Alpha, Hotel, Lima, and Foxtrot

Finally.. the surface tile (tile too small)! Won't be in the Beta 5 release

Scaling and positioning the surface tiles can be a slightly arduous and fiddly job, so good luck with that. My only advice would be to actually do that bit first then fit the base onto that. I think you will have a hard time fitting the tiles to an exisiting base.

And maybe you must change the positions of your runways and taxiways.

Yep,, what is the perfect eye alt (in ft) in google earth

It's been a while since I did the surface tiles for Ascension, but it's not quite as simple as snapping from google earth and slapping them down.

As I'm sure you are aware the surface tiles come in a scale of size. The smaller the tile, the smaller area on the earth it covers and therefore more detail can be achieved with the same resolutions.

What you need to do is calculate how big your base is IRL. Then calculate how many tiles that would take up at your chosen tile size.
For example, Ascension is made from level 4 tiles, which are about 4km square I believe, with Ascension being 16km long (roughly), this meant I could split the island up into a 4x4 grid of squares.
I would have used level 3 (8km) but I couldn't get these to line up with the Ascension blob that was on the default surface tiles, so I had to go smaller.

Each Ascension tile uses a 512x512 texture, which basically meant I needed a 2048x2048 master texture to cut up into chunks. If you wanted more detail than Ascension has, like KSC hi-res for eg, you will need smaller tiles and/or higher resolutions.

So, to answer your question, the correct google maps altitude is dependent on your desired resolution and base scale. It involves a little bit of maths!
