You guys remember the the SimNASA program that was shut down, and the virtual space mission they did with the Orion II-I spacecraft, and the addon that Brad had posted on the site? Does anyone know where I can find that addon? Thank You very much!!!

Well, it is sitting on my harddrive still in the RC-1 state (Release Candidate). Not sure if there would be a demand for it, but I would be willing to upload it to Orbithangar if there was the interest from the community.

Certainly not a "complete" product, but fun to use.

Is it open-source, maybe GPL v3? ;)

Everything I make is open... wide open.

Now availabe on OrbitHangar. I would love to see this project with its own *.dll and would be happy to help whomever would like to take up the project.

Hi Brad,

Not sure (haven't fully tested / looked at the files yet) but there might happen some CTD in your scenarios (because of dependencies / references to SimNASA’s custom Solar System and related items, which weren't uploaded at OHM).

A few extra side notes:

a) There is some 'missing' documentation that could be nice to read, from the part of the alternative AresI launcher implementation: despite these were development files from my always ongoing NASA VSE SC alternative reality work, I would consider this documentation to be useful or at least interesting for the final user. Only for reference, uploading in this thread one of those old pdf (there is other stuff related with this AresI and my SimNASA collaboration + NASA VSE SC development sharing, for example, the AresI-Centaur integration, but haven’t updated those performances to reflect the changes made to the 20080518 version of the AresI launcher, which is the version that used for a preliminary development implementation of SimNASA’s OrionII integration with its CLV)

b) Back to OrionII development history, beyond an alternative preliminary spacecraft configuration (using Adam's ‘kodiak’ original files with minor tweaks from me) included in a standalone (no external dependencies, using Orbiter’s default Solar system, etc) zip package that have prepared back then, have also meanwhile made a custom integration of such standalone package with Frank Inklaar’s preliminary and very interesting dll for the OrionII biconic CM (where such dll replaced the ‘dummy’ physics that I had quickly implemented for the biconic Command Module as well introduced automated AOA for entry + automated descent events).

Have also made a preliminary integration of my CH4-LOX SM with a cargo container (for ATV duties).

Perhaps will try to contact Frank and Adam to see if can upload something derived from this standalone package. Brad, in case I manage to contact them and find some free time for this, would you mind if I used SimNASA’s logo and used the SimNASA’s directory structure that have implemented in my past collaborations in order to try to prepare a slightly updated standalone version (no external dependencies) about such eventual ‘alternative’ SimNASA development line? If there is any kind of issue, no problem, sooner or *later* I will eventually release this kind of stuff on my own NASA VSE SC addon but, meanwhile, just thought that could be fun to see if would be feasible to prepare something based on past SimNASA stuff given that such move could eventually save time here (by reusing / adapting some of those NASA VSE SC addon related integrations that have prepared on past SimNASA collaborations).

Thanks,
António

Just FYI, with the "OrionII MKII" scenario I get a crash which appears to relate to the SIMNASA/SOL/sol.cfg file, and with the "OrionII MKII reentry test", I get a crash of:
">>> ERROR: No vessel class configuration file found for:
>>> ERROR: SimNASA\Spacecraft\spacecraft03
>>> [C:\Source\Orbiter\Vessel.cpp / 248]
>>> TERMINATING <<<"

I deleted all things out off the scenario and then the scenario starts.
I succsesfully flown the Orion in orbit...but...when I'm in the MPSMS and press J to activate the docking adapter orbiter crashes. I have no solution for that...:(

Hi Brad,

As everyone is probably aware, the scenario files will probably not work. The package was uploaded "as-is" so you'll have to recreate the scenario files.

This version of the Orion is completely different that what you left us Antonio. We started all over again, although the concept is approximately the same, it is entirely a different spacecraft than what is described in your PDF that you attached.

Feel free to do as you please. If I have time, I might release an independent version that isn't dependent upon the SimNASA base files.

I have changed the scenario that it works. But orbiter crashs when I press J in orion.

Thanks Brad

I know that the OrionII files that you have just uploaded are something else beyond the time I was actively collaborating with SimNASA. I attached the pdf mostly because of the original NASA VSE SC AresI related launcher information from my personal development archives. The additional historical background on OrionII alternative development path / missions was just an extra for those whom like to read about conceptual mission modes (if you wish the file to be removed from this thread please feel free to say so and I will do it the next time I login).

Regarding what I might probably end up by doing: might then try to contact both Adam and Frank in order to specifically ask for permission (and know about eventual constraints) to include their past OrionII work (3D + textures from Adam, dll from Frank) plus one or two other updates from me (ATV variant) inside a standalone zip. Depending of contacts results and also if finding to have time to adapt one older of those standalone development zips, might probably end up by using a slightly different directory designation than \SimNASA\(...) (in order to not interfere with your uploads).

Thanks,
António

I modified the scenario that it uses the default system and removed all related to the SimNasa system. Got the orion into orbit.
But has anybody an idea why orbiter crashes if I press J to jettison the command module?

EDIT: I think this hasn't something to do with the Sol system problem.

I quit trying to make it work,recycle bin had job with this add-on.

Hmm... I could look at doing a second implementation as DLL, maybe we could find the errors that way by comparing with a second implementation approach. Would be nice if somebody more skilled with Spacecraft3 could also attempt the same with spacecraft3. The more the better.

I just don't understand why orbiter crashes when I press J.
Orbiter log says:
**** WARNING: Mesh not found: .\Meshes\.msh

>>> ERROR: No vessel class configuration file found for:
>>> ERROR: SimNASA\Spacecraft\spacecraft03
>>> [C:\Source\Orbiter\Vessel.cpp / 248]

I would look into the folders...
