Discussion Space: 1999 updates ?

Here is an updated guy:

Nice astronaut! I'd only add a few more geometry edges to the model, so that it doesn't look so flat. I know what it takes to model stuff, so this is not a criticism, it's a well intended suggestion!
I see that the images where usefull! Nice back and front pack detailing  !

I think the Moonbase Alpha could be made easier. Make a new dll for it. Right now the pads are at the surface. That's why you can land on them. If you raise them you need to attach. Not too hard to do. It would be harder to lower the pads. So any ideas?

Here are two screenshots of the final version of the Eagle VC mesh. It's close too the real thing regarding panels and general layout, but still very low poly. Only thing to do is putting MFDs into those middle screens!

Wow. This is really getting cool.

Have you an idea when you release this?

I am reworking the Moonbase Alpha to be like the MArbase base. Keeping the pads in their location and direction. 4thRock is working on the Main Mission. The hangar by the pads will be usable. The pads housing will have airlocks. Not sure as where to put them. Either on the hangar or the docking building. They will be near the travel tubes. The pad housing are hollowed out for storage. The pad will be able to lower/raise with an attached vessel.

Not really... Soon :P meaning that perhaps weeks or months. I have a lot of stuff in my hands, including checking out some meshes gattispilot has sent me.
Anyway, I'll release the VC for one of the spacecraft.dll Eagles. It would be great if someone integrated it into a custom .dll version. That's beyond my abilities, but I'm all for it!

That's a great looking VC for the Eagle. Very crisp images.
I'm tinkering ( yet again :P ) with putting the Marsbase Alpha on the moon in place of the original moonbase Alpha using resized crater meshes. I've got it packed up and in beta test right now so I'll let you know if anyone has any troubles. Gattispilot sent me the mesh for the Forcefield towers so I'll add them to the base config as soon as I finish the UCGO battlewagon I'm working on currently.

I prefer not to use any crater or terrain meshes and let Orulex do it  If you look carefully at the first image I posted of the Eagle cockpit, you can see the generated crater.
It works and you can drive to and up the crater's rim in the Moonbuggy.

Here's what I'm working on for the Main Mission mesh. The textures are not mine, and I've asked for permission to use them. Let's hope so, as they are terrific and there's no point in redoing something that is perfect in the first place.
I'll add lots of details and of course the windows will allow you to look outside the base. The main screen should work (for camera MDF ?) and perhaps another screen on one of the desks should also be functional. Of couse, this will need to be integrated into Moonbase Alpha, but I'm concentrating on finishing the mesh first.

I guess then you need Orulex. I wonder if it would do it for the Nuclear waste site.

Yes, Orulex creates a crater for every base for compatibility. This is of course because the bases are at 0 elevation, otherwise the terrain would cover them. If there's a terrain mesh, the generated terrain will not match if it is too large.
