Discussion Space Shuttle Tribute

Hi all,

As we all know, there are only two STS missions left (STS-134, STS-135). I have compiled my own Space Shuttle Tribute:

This picture shows all the Space Shuttles that were spaceworthy at one time. From left to right (Atlantis, Challenger, Endeavour, Discovery, Columbia). The patches on the top show the first Space Shuttle mission (ALT), The last Space Shuttle mission (STS-135) and a NASA Space Shuttle Patch.

Here are all five Space Shuttles sillhouetted against the Sun.

All the Shuttles lined up.

Hangar doors opened.

P.S. All shuttles except Atlantis that are shown are from Shuttle Fleet 4.7 by David413.

You know, it would have been too awesome to launche ALL the shuttles together for one final flight and have them fly in formation while in orbit. Maybe do some OMS-powered acrobatics.
Oh well, we can always simulate it.

Columbia's my favorite. She's the original world's greatest all-electric flying machine ! My second is Challenger (I love the name :thumbup:!).

Endeavour in my opinion. Notice they spelt it in British English (Endeavour) instead of American English (Endeavor). Because it is named after HMS Endeavour.

I learned something new today. Im pretty sure the enterprise was named after either the USS, HMS or NGC-1701 enterprise. lol

Actually, it was named after the NCC-1701. Originally, it was Constitution.

Maybe all 3 :lol:.

A write-in campaign by Trekkies to President Gerald Ford asked that the orbiter be named after the Starship Enterprise, featured on the television show Star Trek. Although Ford did not mention the campaign, the president—who during World War II had served on the aircraft carrier USS Monterey (CVL-26) that served with USS Enterprise (CV-6) —said that he was "partial to the name" and overrode NASA officials.

As much as all of would like to have seen that, sadly Enterprise never went to space. Thanks to orbiter, she can in the sim.

I'd say I like Enterprise, I followerd her on my 20" bicycle when she rolled from Rockwell in Palmdale all the way to Edwards. I lived in Lancaster my first 17 years of life. Got to see the name change from 10th St East to Challenger Way. I wish I could have followed them all.

Yes they were all brave beyond a normal human's comprehension. them and the challenger crew and soyuz 1 and soyuz 11. let them rest in peace.
