News State of Orbiter Forum, Orbit Hangar Mods

1. Thanks for all your work, and for giving the addons a new home!
2. In the old Orbithangar was an option "Browse addons by category"
Would it be possible to make something like this again?

It was always fun to browse launchers, near future spacecraft or futuristic spacecraft.

Yeah you can just choose a category in the list and you'll only see addons from that category, like this is the launchers category; https://orbiter-forum.com/resources/categories/launchers.3/

We'll just run a massive regex replacement across the entire database, what could go wrong?
Limit it to the description field and there should be no problems. Most  seem to be followed by a space, so perhaps you can try to match " " first.

The new OH is great and works as expected! :salute: Great to have Orbiter downloads there, it really helps to have everything in one place.

It's easy to find stuff, although the "Search Orbiter Addons" link is a bit hard to find, as it is the last sub-menu option (Latest reviews Your Addons Watched Search Orbiter Addons) Moving it to the first option (if possible) would improve usability. If not possible, changing the label to CAPS might help (although of course, caps are a bad design choice).
Just a suggestion, nothing to worry about right now, the now OH is great!

Could you open up the api? Useful for client based one-click installers.
It is discouraged in the ToS to use automated non-interactive means to access O-F repository data, so having an API to allow exactly this would be... interesting (in the lack of a better word).

A question: how long does it take for a new addon to have its own forum discussion thread?

I uploaded https://www.orbiter-forum.com/resou...-for-orbiter-2016-vesselbuilder-version.5442/ yesterday, but so far no thread under https://www.orbiter-forum.com/forums/orbithangar-addons-comments.32/
Oh it should happen straight away, but I don't think the top-level category makes one. The rule's on the sub-categories only; I actually intended to restrict creating addons in the top-level category, but clearly I've missed that.

Indeed I seemed to have missed marking it as "spacecraft". Uploading to the parent category doesn't make sense, so yes, you should restrict it.
Is there any way I can change the category to spacecraft on my end? It not, no problem I can delete it and reupload ;-)

As neat as that would be, the addon remains the property of @Gazza - it would be improper for us to modify it.
Not really changing it. Just putting it back. I don't know if he (Gazza) wanted it taken down.

You should be able to, or I can move it, though I dunno if moving it will make a new thread. I think I've taken off the permission to let people fall into this trap now.

Given that this is the content of the text file inside the add-on;
!!!STS Payloads is being updated!!!

This update will also work on STS Payloads 2010R0 for the shuttle fleet 4.8R2.

The Pylon MFD is being updated at this present time.

Stay tuned on the orbiter forum.

Gazza
And given that the developer themselves intentionally packaged this into the .zip and updated their add-on with it, I'm unsure how you can be unsure that this collection of actions was anything other than intentional. It seems a strange collection of things to do accidentally.

Didn't see any way of changing the category, so simply removed it and uploaded it again as "Spacecraft". Problem fixed (y)
I'm still happy with the overall process, especially with the server's fast response. Very good :salute:

A question: Why there's a 5-second DDoS check whenever accessing any addon in the Downloads (not just mine)? Thanks

We're seeing a significant amount of automated traffic to the resources section, so in line with our TOS we restrict non-conventional traffic there. For the most part it should be a quick check every so often.

Thanks for pointing me to the category view!
Now I have a problem when trying the access a second page of a category, or of a search result. Its says:

Access denied Error code 1020

You do not have access to www.orbiter-forum.com.
The site owner may have set restrictions that prevent you from accessing the site. Contact the site owner for access or try loading the page again.

The first page with 20 results works fine, but trying to open any subsequent page shows this 'Access denied' message.
