I might as well keep a log of what I do while I develop this bas(c)e.

The plan is to build Sunrise Spaceport at 51.6* off of the equator, making its east/west runway most useful. It is planned to have

1 -- 3km runway
3 -- 25*50 m hangars
15 - 50*50 m hangars
2 -- 100*100 m hangars (20 in all)
3 -- 150*200 m passenger terminals
5 -- 50*50 m VTOL pads
2 -- 100*100 m VTOL pads (7 in all)
2 -- Space shuttle type launching pads
1 -- Navigational VOR for intrument approaches

Any suggestions are welcome. A current map of the spaceport is attached.

:tiphat:

No tarmac? Just pads for the Shuttle? Not other rocket platforms?

I figured that going over the specifics of tarmacs and such would be thoughroughly boring. They are illustrated in the map attached.

Perhaps it would be *thoroughly* boring, but necessary. If you are going to list all of the specifications except for that, it's like washing all of your car except for one door.

You know it would be better if you more launch pads for more launch vehicles, would greatly improve the flexibility of your base. :tiphat:

The basic planning starts from several items. What are safety stand-off requirements between various facilities (to know that, you have to convert max allowed fuel + oxidizer loads into TNT equivalent and use current DoD guidance on separation)? Where are your railroad lines? Does safety constrain runway azimouths? Where exactly is the spaceport? It doesn't make sense to lose 200 m/s just because the Soviet Union could not find another spot for the R-7 launchpad.

Why bother with 20 hangars, 3 passenger terminals and multiple launch pads if you only have one runway?
