With the forthcoming mission of STS-FA11, NASA is about to complete Space Station Freedom and move on to its next goal. That goal is part of the next program, the HEOP Project. HEOP stands for High Earth Orbital Platform. This is a new science platform (callsign Helios) that will consist of two groups of components. An unpressurized science platform and a pressurized control complex. The goal is to continue man's pressence in orbit and to provide more data on living in outerspace.
The architecture of the project is very complex and a quick rundown is covered in the PDF attached. Also attached is the HEOP Project mission patch.
